If you use a sink grid with your sink, what color do you have? Do you think white or stainless would be better for my sink?

I'm bumping this in hopes you get responses from someone who has had their sink installed. My sink is still in the box and I want to see it installed before I decide what to do with the edges.

As far as the sink grid - I would think you'd want the white one since the sink is white. JMHO! :-)

Don't use white caulk !!

A recent post showed an upmounted Shaw sink with too wide of a gap. The installer filled it with white caulk which made the sink look like it "melted" into the countertop. Not good. Clear probably would have been better.

I can't give you advice on the caulk part as my cabinet maker did not cut into the cabinet for the sink. It sits on top of a cabinet and there are two open triangles where the curve of the sink is. But I do have an opinion on the grid. I originally got the white grid and it was about two days until someone (probably me) put a knife in the sink and sliced the coating. Another week or so until there was another nick. By then I realized it really was a pain to keep clean - if you poured coffee, spaghetti sauce on it, it would stain the white surface. You could clean it and get the stain out - but that was way too much maintenance for me - so I got the stainless steel version and I love it!

I got the same exact thing going on with my Shaw. The cab has been cut and the left side at the curve of the sink has about a 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap. Right side is fairly tight. I don't know exactly what I'm going to do. Seems I have seen mostly white caulk used for filler. I did ask my KD what he thought (he's never been in on a Shaw install) about using clear and he said no, that would cast a shadow or something??? He said white caulk or maybe even a cream caulk to match my painted cabs. I'm leaning towards the white. I haven't ordered a grid yet, but now that I see the sink, I think I will. I have gotten satin nickel faucet so will go with satin nickel grid. Hope someone else gives you (and me) a more definitive answer...and hopefully a pic.

Thanks for the comments on the sink grid. I had wondered if the white would be hard to clean.

I hope someone chimes in about what to do around the sink base and the cabinets. There is not a big crack around mine, but think it might need to be sealed. Same problem as you pupwhipped, the Shaw is not very common in my area. Anyone have suggestions?

My cabinet guy actually re-cut when he realized it didn't fit perfectly. I was happy about that. But, if he had left the tiny cracks that were there, I would have caulked. I would think you might want to do it in the color of your cabs. Here is a pic

I have nothing to add except...what a gorgeous sink! I often wish I had gone that route! :)

Ours was a pretty easy fix, since out cabs will be painted. But I didn't trust my cabinetmaker to do the job as carefully as I wanted, so I did it myself. I used bondo (sandable and paintable). I haven't painted yet...
