Very good suggestion DtD and Steve - I just sent an email to GW about a possible Gallery. "On the New England Gardening Forum, we have several recurring threads heavy with photos. Some of these have been posted regularly for years now, and we like to refer back to previous threads. It's getting more and more difficult to handle the reference links, and the earlier threads are getting perilously close to sliding off GardenWeb into oblivion. Is there some way we can post these earlier threads on a separate site (like a Gallery) so the photos and discussions are easily available even when they're a few years old? (the suggestion was initially made by steve_mass on a current thread). I right click on the desktop, click on personalize, windows color, then advanced settings. You click on the area you want to change and the options will come up. If you are using Firefox, install the ad on called "no squint" and you will have an option in it. I find the whites so hard on my eyes, I like to change backgrounds to a pastel. The only thing I have been able to change is the first page in WLmail.

My response on that thread: dekeoboe: That's a good point, and the needs of the Building Forum are different from the New England Gardening Forum. The gardeners usually want to post pics that show the subject matter clearly, but not necessarily in great detail, and want the pic to fit into the page view without disrupting the text around and after it. This irritates viewers. The building forum, on the other hand, often needs greater detail (to show dimensions, etc.) so the file size and image size can be much bigger. You can always open a large file in one window and then go back to the original page to discuss it. Thumbnails are probably the best option, but you need an album on a webhosting site like Picasa, Photobucket, etc. to provide thumbnails (a thumbnail is a small pic that is clickable and the click directs you to the full-size pic in the album on the hosting site). If you use TinyPic you can't use thumbnails but you can still determine the size of the file during the uploading process. That size will of course be limited by the size of the file on your computer. The "choose file" button is now labeled "Browse". When you choose "Upload Now" you will have to enter the scrambled code, then you only need to click once on the top code (labeled "HTML for websites") and it will automatically be copied to your clipboard so you can paste it. Email will vary a lot with the email client used. I use PopPeeper and often don't use HTML or rich text so it wouldn't show. It'll sometimes show the HTML tags and be hard to read. With Vista, you can put fonts into any folder, go to the font, right click it and click install and it'll install the font for you. You don't have to worry about putting it in a special folder. That way I just copy that folder to the other computer and add them as needed. Yes it's a good idea to limit fonts but it's not as critical as it used to be. It's a good idea to uninstall fonts you don't use though. Really, a person doesn't need hundreds of fonts on their system. Often there's many that are so close they're nearly identical so it's a waste to keep all of them on there. FWIW, some programs, like Word will allow you to embed the font into the document so it'll go with the file if you bring it to a system without the font. I have this set as default to save the entire font and not just what's in the document. That way I can edit if needed and have the font available.
