Hi Laura, I was wondering if you have done any more work with your flagstone. I stopped today at a stone yard to drool over all their pretty rocks and get some prices. I fell in love with a stone they call Pinola and another one called Crab Orchard. They were both 21 cents per lb, but the Pinola goes further because it is not as thick. I think it averages 1.5 to 2.5 inches. I would think that would be fine for a pathway, especially if I first laid a base layer of screening. If I get the okay from dh I think I'm going to order some. I agree being able to share photos directly in your message makes it easier for others to help. And Kodak Gallery will be closing soon and all your photos will be going to Shutterfly unless you opted out. As far as I can tell there is no way to share photos from Shutterfly. I opened an account with them over four years ago and stopped using it because of that. Photobucket and TinyPic are both excellent photo storage sites and also offer editing. Okay, not to your problem. I'd not paint the siding. Once you do that you have to worry about redoing it year after year. I'd concern myself with painting the foundation and porch. Maybe paint them to match the main siding on the house. The gables look beige on my monitor and I do like that they are a different color than the main area of the siding. It ads to the curb appeal in my opinion. I think with a few changes you could give your home a Craftsman or cottage (as you mentioned) look to it. Here's a couple ideas that might work for you home. Don't get moisture control! Moisture "control" stays too wet for peppers. Just get regular potting soil that says "feeds for X months". No fancy moisture control, or special blends, or anything like that. Just plain, cheap potting soil. The fancier you get, the more likely you are to kill your peppers.
