Paint Roller Tut

I just used a non animated siggie that I already had made up.....I think its one of those translated tuts 'cuz in places you sort of have to read between the lines.......but if you like working with layers, this is the tut for you.....

The smaller rollers hold less paint than larger ones, so you have to return to the paint bucket or pan more often. The larger the room, the longer it will take using the smaller roller. IMO, a small bathroom, a closet, or a single wall are the limits to the skinny rollers. I don't like them much because I try to maximize the paint on the roller and end up with drips. As a small woman, when I use a full-size roller, I use a 6 inch roller. The reduced weight and size give me more control.

Spraying paint and back rolling is probably the best way to apply the paint evenly. If you are rolling manually out of a bucket or whatever, the time it takes to load the roller with paint is what makes it hard to keep a wet edge, especially if the walls are big. If you can't keep a wet edge, this is how lap lines may show up. If the Natura is washable, it should be just as easy as applying an eggshell. True flat paint doesn't form a washable skin on top of the paint film when it is dry and is filled with cheap fillers like chalk so that is why we use the bigger naps for flats. The best way to roll either paints though is to apply it, and then make your final pass with the roller in one direction top to bottom.

if it's new construction spraying and back rolling is pretty standard. repaints we brush and roll. if the homeowner will be away on vacation will will spray trim and cut and roll walls.

You've got it backwards. An airless gun produces less overspray. I haven't used my airless sprayer indoors, but it's been invaluable for exterior work. If you go that route, buy a sprayer that can draw out of a 5 gallon bucket of paint. Read the application instructions for any finish you use. Some allow spraying but require back-rolling to work product into substrate. As far as heights, I sprayed up to the top of my 30 ft. high barn. You'll need a sprayer with a long hose so you don't have to move it around too much.

Thank you both.....you're working with approx. 18 layers.....its the usual hide 16 layers & merge visible, taking it back to 9 layers....

The tut will seem confusing at first but take a couple of trys at it & you'll soon have it sorted...

This is my second effort, kept losing track of all the layers, in the end, I found it best to merge one at a time.Enjoyable once you get sorted out.Hazel

I did the layers the same way you did....otherwise it got a little confusing....I also kept renaming my layers (1,2,3 etc) because I found my V8 would reverse the order of the layers when I duplicated them; it would put layer 9 at the top instead of layer 1...this way it was easier to keep them in order...

Wonderful work girls. I gave it a try and had the layers screwed up so bad. I'm sure it will at least take me another two times to get it.

I had to take a couple of runs at it too...but things will magically sort themselves out....just take your time & make sure that you have the correct layer highlighted before you begin a step....I find I charge ahead thinking that I'm working on a certain layer only to find out that its not the one that's highlighted....grrrr....
