blueboy: If all the buds break now there won't be any more next spring. Usually though there are more that aren't apparent that come on later. For some reason mine are blooming more this fall than ever before. Since I have a warm, sunny room this fall that I haven't before I'm pushing on and trying to make a crop. This room has about 10 hrs good light and temperatures are 80s and 90s by day down to 50s at night after moving inside. I'd leave some fruit on that Emerald, warm it up by day if possible, and try to carry some fruit thru the winter. If you can provide about what I am, I think we can make a crop. You don't have much to lose if all the buds break now because your spring crop is gone.

Lynn, this is going to be a tricky one to do from the inside. First, I think it is both a rain and condensation problem. I suspect that when the previous owners bricked over the hole, they simply stapled up a sheet of "vinyl/plastic". If they did not lap it properly any water that came through the brick (and water DOES go through brick) into the wall above would run down the wall, behind the plastic, and into the insulation. The reverse laps act like funnels to direct the water INTO the house instead of OUT. You'll need to make sure none of your framing has been damaged by the water. If it has, you'll need to replace the damaged studs. From the outside in: I would recommend using #30 felt being careful to tuck the top under the felt or housewrap above, so that it is lapped like roofing. You'll need to add some sheathing, like plywood over the hole on the outside face of the studs, then you can insulate and drywall. As you can imagine, you will need lots of extra hands to do this from the inside. The other option would be to take the brick down and do it from the outside. It would be far easier to do it that way.

Terriks suggested the magnetic rod, which is certainly one good idea. You could also look at Command adhesive hooks to rest the rod on. We did this on my in-laws back door, hung drapery and worked well. A third alternative is to replace the insert with one that has the built-in blinds between the glass. Since you say this is a new door, perhaps you considered that option and chose not to do it, but I would check with the door mfg and see if they have the option, or purchase an after-market unit that is available at the home centers. If uncovering the window is not an issue, I would also look at using heavy-duty velcro (marine velcro) and mounting that on the door, then hanging a roman-look fabric shade lined with blackout lining. That velcro is very strong, tho I am not sure it could hold an operating blind, but certainly one that remains in place would be fine. Without seeing the room and the location of the door in the space, another choice could be to mount the rod high above the door and then stack back the curtains to one side during the day. But again, without seeing the space it is hard to know if that would work and look nice. Let me just say one other thing. If this is your space, and your door, and you are ALWAYS going to need to have the door covered, then I guess I don't see what the real problem would be with drilling into the door. It's not like a month from now you are going to decide you don't need the room dark when you sleep, or that you are moving. Pick a window treatment style that could be changed if you decide to change out your decor down the line - curtain rods that could take all kinds of window treatments would likely be best.

Couples don't necessarily have the same "get out of bed and get ready" times and many don't. My wife and I never have. If one gets up early to leave for a commute to work and the other stays at home to look after the kids, the second one will very likely stay in bed. My wife was often still sleeping when I left for work. That's not so unusual. I couldn't have done that with an open bathroom portal. Double sinks may facilitate getting ready at the same time but don't focus on that as their prime reason. It gives each person their own space for storage and to keep their own things. Their own sink to use. And much more space for each than if sharing one sink. We've had this for decades, have the same at our new second place, and I wouldn't consider having a bathroom with other than double sinks. The benefits are numerous.
