Glass hutch cab drawer--silverware storage?
Comments (19)Fivefoot--excellent point! Mine will be upper cab depth too, 12". My longest piece of silverware is the table knife at 8.5" long. I should really check with my cab maker to find out how much finished interior space I'll have. He better say at least 9"! BTW, my cab maker never heard of a drawer being wired with an outlet. He gave the most bewildered look when I mentioned it for my bathroom vanity....See MoreHelp me pick out drawer depths! Please! :)
Comments (2)I am currently moving back into our kitchen slowly. THe other night I was working on putting the pots in the drawers. I hate stacking my pots and pans--I don't like them to get scratched--they used to be on a potrack for this reason. I would highly suggest you take all of your pots and pans and do the measuring thing. Decide which ones you use a lot, put those in drawers next to the stove. Some of my pans are really wide with very long handles--and the angle of the handle varies between them. This means that I need longer drawers but not as deep for those, but yet my really tall stock pot needs a tall drawer. In my case, I could have gone with shallower drawers, if it meant going from 2 to three drawers for most of my pots (in order to avoid the stacking thing too much). But like I said, there are only a few of my pots that are very tall. I really think you only need the deep drawers to accomodate the tall pots. Otherwise, you will be burying your pots under one another in order to "not waste space"....See MoreDoes anybody have a 12' base cabinet? Silverware drawer
Comments (15)I've got a 12" 4-drawer stack right by my rangetop: I am amazed by how much stuff fits in these drawers. The top two drawers have cooking utensils; the third drawer holds two sizes of boxes of ziploc bags and a roll of plastic wrap; and the deep last drawer holds a bunch of pot lids. Bigger is better, but if all you have is 12", drawers are better than a 12" tray cabinet, IMO. Having said that, I don't think it would be appropriate for silverware. You'd most likely have to put the forks and knives in one drawer, and spoons ans serving ware in another. That would be a pain to go through two drawers every time you want to set the table....See MoreMy silverware drawer stinks!
Comments (8)That set up doesn't seem gross to me at all. My kitchen sink is above my trash. Very common arrangement. I wash vegetables in the sink right above the trash and then, horrors, eat them. Odor fighters: baking soda (either used to scrub the space out or sitting in a bowl or the like), white vinegar (same), crumpled newspaper, coffee grounds, charcoal briquettes. Also airing things out in the sun can be good. Can you remove the drawer and set it outside in the sun for a few hours? I'd probably try cleaning with white vinegar and leaving baking soda in a dish, but that is mostly because I have those things handy. I had great luck with charcoal getting the sour milk smell out of a car after we forgot one of my son's sippy cups under a seat in the summer (Blech--we threw the sippy cup away!). But it's a little messier than the other options for putting in a kitchen drawer so I'd save it as a last option....See Morelucy
