removing broen screw
Comments (3)A furniture restorer would have small drill bits to drill a hole in the piece of screw left and then use an easy out---kind of a reverse drill bit---to unscrew the piece. If you have a small enough bit set, start with a small bit and drill a hole in the center of the piece---then use larger bits until the screw is gone or loosens so a small screwdriver will catch the insides of the hople and screw out....See MoreA screw with a stripped head & a special challenge
Comments (3)I'd use a small drill bit, bore about 1/4 to 3/8 inch into the screw head and use an 'easy-out' to extract the screw. The instructions that come with the easy-out will suggest a drill bit size. Before doing this, though, are you positive you are using the correct size screwdriver? A #1 phillips will often work on a #2 sized screw, but when either is a bit worn it can result in slippage. Assuming you are dealing with a phillps head screw, make sure you are using a screwdriver of the correct size that has a good condition tip. Also, a good deal of inward force onto the screw head will give the screwdriver a better chance of getting a purchase....See MoreBroken mounting screw on box
Comments (0)I've got two boxes with a broken mounting screw. I'm talking about the screw that mounts the electrical device to the box and is usually included with the device. In both cases, the head of the screw broke off and neither can really be gripped with a pliers. Is there a product or technique that can remove such a small screw? Thanks....See MoreBroken Door Lock - trying to remove
Comments (10)I've never had much luck with an easy out, although it is worth a try. I would attempt using the tightest fitting Allen wrench, standard or metric, first. Then I would try the vise grip; then the easy out; then drilling the hole deeper and trying the easy out again. If all that fails, then you'll have to completely drill the Allen screw out and re-tap the hole. Holefully the set screws in the other doors are not as abused as this one.......See Moresnoonyb
