I am not an expert, but my understanding is they are smaller than the regular pole beans and are supported by using each other, so that they are climbing on each other? so if on their own, would need support?, but I prepare to stand corrected. an alternative which would need support is runner beans but you would only need a long stick or bamboo pole for these and are relatively inexpensive, I have linked to a post I wrote last year, the part I think you could do is the bean in the bottle, this I first saw when I was 5 or 6 at school and possibly the only experiment from school I remember and carried with me to adulthood (40 yesterday) I even remember the teachers name which for me is amazing, I am rubbish at names...I digress. but as you will see, my own child was as blown away as I was, at this simple experiment. I am assuming you are a teacher? and clearly in an area where the homes will have yards, but if not, then the children, would need something smaller, depending on age of said children, fast growing stuff, is good for little ones, and leaf lettuce is real quick and can be grown on a window sill with a minimum of soil, and tastes soo good, I thought I hated it, as I had only had store brought in adulthood, until I did this and forgave my Children when they wouldn't eat it, now I am lucky if they haven't denuded the patch before I can use it. @jlco, Fiona et al - The round yellowish to greenish orbs are not the same as the fruiting fungal bodies seen in Emma's post. What the OP and others showed in the images uploaded are evidence of the presence of usually subterranean female relatives of the Margarodes genus and closely related to armored scale insects found on plant parts above ground. Eggs are laid in late spring or summer. The first instars (crawlers) emerge from light pink eggs laid in a cluster and enclosed in a white waxy sac. You've probably seen these two, but thought them to be a form of fungi. No pictures of the eggs have been posted to this thread. As soon as crawlers emerge, they go looking for a root to feed on, and not long after the onset of feeding, they begin emitting a secretion that becomes their protective outer covering that gives them their common name - "ground pearls." If you use magnification, you can see their mouth parts sticking out of the small balls, which are a tough waxy coating. The nymphs develop over summer and fall, and by winter, completing the life cycle as they become adults, which overwinter in the cyst/ 'pearl'. Ground Pearls/ Margarodes Ground pearls ^^^ Al

Let me give you a few thoughts. We went geothermal but didn't do radiant heat...we use air ducts as we are able to use it for both heat and a/c and we use it for fresh air recirc and we have ducts near our wood stove so we can circulate the heat throughout the house. This also allowed us to use softer flooring than concrete or tile. Rather than a green roof with potential difficulties, I would opt for active solar panels which will offset the cost of electricity to run the geothermal. Sola tubes are more efficient and less likely to leak than skylights so we put them in interior spaces. Angled glass can be the problem with passive solar as it captures so much heat from the sun, it's like a furnace, yet once the sun goes down the glass leaks heat like crazy. So, IMO, the only way to do it is to devote space to heat generation as they are not comfortable places to live in. So we chose to do solar tempered with just gaining heat in the winter from the sun. We have 2 tankless hot water heaters...one for the master bath, and one for the rest of the house. Given power outages, we put in a generator large enough to run the geothermal system.

Sorry for the poor quality photo. This was my hubby’s office in our last home. The photo makes the walls appear more olive than they were, anyways, he loved that deep green. We painted the ceiling a grayish green and that was a nice feel in there. It wasn’t rustic at all, he had things that were important to him on the walls... photographs of jets he’d helped design signed by the engineers who worked with him on those projects, and instruments he used to play displayed on the walls (a trombone he played from 2nd grade through high school, and the first bass guitar he learned to play on, that happened to be a pretty color of wood) Hubby opted for flat sheen walls in that office because he did a lot of web development work and he didn’t want any glare when staring at his computer screens.
