Stripping paint from door and window frames
Comments (9)ZipStrip is a thick product (stays in place) that will remove paint. It contains methylchloride, which has to be used with good ventiation - open doors / windows. It is very effective in removing paint. Depending upon how many layers, if may take more than one application. I finish the stripping by applying ZipStrip and use steel wool to remove the last particles of finish. Peel Away doesn't have fumes. You brush it on, cover with a plastic/paper film, and let it set a day or two. I've had good luck with it too. For either one you need good rubber gloves, eye protection. Also you need to mask and cover the places where you don't want the paint removed. Have found this to be a sharp scraper than can get into the crevices: Here is a link that might be useful: Check out this Spectrum Razor Scraper...See MoreWeathered Door Repair
Comments (5)The doors do have covered protection, and DH wondered if that was always there. Neighbor across the street knew the builder/owner and assured us that the cover was always there. It's East facing, so it gets morning sun. Neglected, yes! For 25 years. Entire custom home property is neglected. First a Foreclosure sale, then new owners had no time to fix anything, lost it to gambling debts, and now we got it! If you know a Benjamin More color stories paint that will work, we will go with that. I have been convinced, not hard (a fine art artist) that the lack of blacks and grays in paint color brings life. BM Color Stories does that. House has amazing bones and a lot of issues! I will not mention the snakes (legion). Suzi I probably won't be able to post another photo for a week or so. The drive is long. Contractor crews are there and working. No place to chill. This post was edited by desertdance on Thu, Apr 25, 13 at 15:00...See MoreFront door bottom weather strip problems
Comments (5)The best and longest-lasting is a bronze threshold and interlocking J-hook seal. Like #70 or 80 here: http://www.zerointernational.com/catalogpage.aspx?pageID=4 And the corresponding hook #23B. It is kind of expensive, but it will last several lifetimes. Comments (3)Are you referring to the "interlock" (where the sliding unit and fixed unit overlap) or the Jamb Seal (where the sliding unit closes into the shut position)? The last interlock i did for someone, the part was around $60.00. That was an Andersen....See Morechisue
