1/2 hp craftsman garage door opener

Opener is 5 years old. Recently the keypad on the outside of the door stopped working. I bought a new one and it will not program. Also, 2 of the 4 remotes I have will not program to it as well. It has the rolling code tech. and the new one is the right one. New batteries do not help. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

Did the remotes quit working at the same time as the key pad, or where there two seperate incidents? When you say two of your remotes won't program, do you mean they won't program at all or you can only program two at a time? These answers will help.

They stopped working at the same time. I have four remotes. 2 programmed, 2 would not. All four used to work. Thanks, John

See if this helps. This should get everything back into proper sequence. Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit. With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain. Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.

Random flashing of that LED is normal but it can sometimes send a signal when there is a problem. It will flash a number of times, pause and then repeat. It sounds like you may possibly have two problems involved here. On the rear of the motor unit you will find a control marked 'down force.' Increase this just a bit. On the side of the motor unit you will find a control marked 'down limit.' Turn this a bit in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will be necessary. Both of these problems can be intermittent.

I don't know what you are lubricating or what kind of door you have but if you are lubricating the rails of a sectional door you should quit and clean up all the stuff. This could be the cause of your problem. If this doesn't help you really need to call a door technician.

If the door starts down and reverses to the open position and the main light flashes 10 times you have a door sensor problem. If the door starts down and reverses to the open position but the main light doesn't flash you have a problem with the RPM sensor. The RPM sensor is a small circuit board near the front of the motor. It's job is to reverse the door when the door hits something. If it fails it will do its job when it shouldn't. I don't know what flickering light you are referring to but it could help if it is flashing a code. If it flashes 5 times and pauses then repeats it is the RPM sensor.

In really cold weather the door goes dwn 2 feet then comes back up. It takes about 6 trys to get it to go all the way dwn. I have tested it for 2 month and it is directly related to the cold weather. Any help out there?

On the rear of your motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find a 'down force' control. Increase this a bit and check.

MY DOOR WILL NOT OPEN EVERY 5 TO 10 DAYS . I OPEN FROM INSIDE HOUSE (WITH EXTRA REMOTE) GO OUT START CAR AND PULL OUT IT WON'T CLOSE. I GET OUT OF CAR AND UNPLUG UNIT AND GET BACK IN CAR AND IT WORKS AGAIN FOR THE NEXT 5 TO 10 DAYS. I'VE CHECK THE SENSORS AND THERE ALIGNED. I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMEONE DRIVING BY WITH THEIR STERO'S ON SAME FREQ.
