I would pick a rug that you like first, and pull the colors from that.

Sometimes it's easier to go and find inspiration pictures and work from there. Google "Black sofa interior design" and then hit images for some inspiration pics. You might also want to check out Houzz.

this is pretty contemporary, but look at the great color combo with the tiffany blue - very feminine color

this has some nice feminine touches, the mirror the fluffy rug, the pink, etc.

OK, you say you want to create a warm & homey feel, and that you prefer a classic, feminine look to one that's cool & contemporary. Fine. And yet, Cool & Contemporary is the first phrase that comes to mind when I hear that the only furniture in somebody's place is black leather & black metal-- followed closely by the phrase Divorced Dad. Either way, I really can't see how that stuff is "a great start" if you're trying to for a look that's warm/ homey/feminine. Could you sell that stuff & start over with things that will actually support your look, rather than weigh it down?

I know that the throw-it-all-overboard approach probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but sometimes, it's the most sensible--and the simplest--solution. It's hard to do waltz in combat boots.

Wow, don't hold back magnaverde! Alas, though I agree. Black leather says contemporary. If you can't start over then I like the idea of finding a rug first. That will give you direction for color. Reddish rust maybe?

Magnaverde is never one to mince words, a trait that I admire.

Black leather is kind of hard to pair with "warm" and "feminine" not to say that it can't be done I would imagine it will be a heck of a challenge.

We used a rich dark purple on one den wall and a lavender on the other (open floor plan). It is feminine but balanced by the black sofa. Our floors will be mahogany, so that may warm it up. We have white window treatments, a white tv cabinet and a white and chrome ceiling fan (vintage looking). I don't think it looks too masculine or feminine despite having both elements in it.
Think of the sofa as a little black dress. You can do many different looks with it if you can see past the contemporary potential.
The shape/style of the sofa will also determine if it is current or out of date. Certain black leather looks scream 80s-90s and others look more timeless/classic.

I think I'm more disturbed about the black side tables. It will be too much black mass. I would look for some tables in wood.
