white board / chalk board / message center
Comments (5)I don't have mine hung up yet, but I just finished making my own message board. I used a piece of foam insulation board that we had leftover from construction. I then covered it in quilt batting, using spray adhesive to join them. Then I covered it in a fabric I found, again using the spray adhesive. I took my glue gun and used that to attach the edges of the fabric to the back of the board, wrapping and pulling it as neatly as I could. Using my glue gun again, I applied two different colors of ribbons , crossing them in x patterns across the board. Each place where the ribbons crossed each other, I glued a decorative button on. Push pins easily go into the foam, or I can just tuck notes under the ribbons. The entire project only took just over an hour and I spent a little over $15 for the fabric and ribbons. I already had the foam (which is fairly inexpensive at Lowes, Home Depot, etc.) quilt batting, buttons and glue. I wanted a large board to hold all the school papers, calendar, and such, so we made it 40 inches by 68 inches. However, the foam is easily cut to any size you want. Here is a picture of it sitting in my kitchen, waiting to be hung by DH!...See MoreHas anyone painted laminate countertop?
Comments (14)I did mine and although it took a while, it wasn't hard. It's held up fine to our abuses, but I did do a faux distressed zinc look so that abuses wouldn't look out of place. I do food prep on a glass cutting board and a wood one for easy clean up. No big deal. Here's a pic of before and after. Like you, I couldn't stand to look at it anymore. I did not sand. Use SW Prep Rite Pro Block primer, painted, the sealed with about 3 coats of poly. It looks so much better! Before After...See MorePantry door chalk board/magnet board - xpost from kitchens
Comments (5)You totally inspired me and I was just at Home Depot a little less than an hour ago and got all my supplies. :-) I also opted to do the piece of metal instead of doing the magnetic chalkboard paint. There is something about the different materials that I like instead of it all looking like chalkboard. Thank you for the inspiration! I am on vacation this week and needed a project like this to do. Simple, inexpensive and fun....See MoreHas anyone painted their kitchen "White" ?
Comments (18)My walls are painted BM Gray Owl. I like it. my kitchen floor is a ceramic tile, which will be replaced with medium brown engineered wood floors, once we finish the kitchen. I want a classic, timeless look. Kitchen is on North facing wall, then the living room with a large window facing West, I have a white fireplace and plantation shutters on window, no curtains. I'm not opposed to having the cabinets painted again. The picture with the refrigerator shows my White Dove cabinet on the left, and the pantry door is white. my dilemma is that my countertops are more gray and white, like the countertops, rather than gray and cream....See Moreserendipity01
