Inside the glass-front cabinet

Hi all,

We are getting close to finishing a kitchen remodel. We kept our old cabinets, but had them painted white. We also had two of the cabinet doors cut out for glass panels. But the inside of the cabinets is still the same color...sort of a light maple, I guess. We asked to have the inside painted, but our contractor said we wouldn't be happy with the result. Whatever they are made of doesn't hold paint well, and he said it would scratch off pretty easily. Has anyone used contact paper or something similar inside a cabinet? We have a modern/transitional style in the kitchen. It's a lot of grays/blacks/whites, so I was thinking this might be a place for a little bit of color. Thoughts?
