Adding ventilation to bedroom

Our bedroom has double French doors going out onto a deck and an octagonal window that doesn't open. I don't sleep well without fresh air and would like some ventilation without spending a lot. There is an adjoining bathroom with a window, and on the other side of the room an adjoining walk-in closet that used to be a bedroom, also with a window, but they are a long way apart and both far from the bed.

I considered replacing the doors with some that have windows in them but that would cost $1000 plus.

Any ideas?

you need to know the taipe of wall you have
maybe you can install a small window for arund 600$ to 800$

I'd definitely put in a couple of windows in the BR, one on either side that can catch the predominant breeze in your area. If you DIY you can do that for less than $400, depending on the size and type of window. You'd want something compatible with what you already have.

If you look at the floor color in the 2nd photo you posted, if you can find a complementary style to your furniture, in a similar color and finish to that floor, I think it would work with your black furniture. Or here they mixed a bit darker wood with black: Gray works here with some black and cream accents: Maybe a med wood tone with black metal accents:

if the parquet is in good shape, you can absolutely have it refinished. I like them. as for matching it, yes, you can buy more parquet oak tiles in the same species. It's a beautiful floor when refinished correctly. some are called 5 finger block oak parquet. this shows the thinner plank style butting up to it. (prob 2 1/4" or so) You can easily buy this other flooring and do it. if you do solid, it's stain on site along w/the parquet. (the parquet flooring has to be sanded w/an orbital sander, not a regular forward and back one. So make sure a good pro is hired to do it) look at how cool it looks in a dark walnut shade w/inlaid regular strips. great for any damaged parts what you could also do for the parts is a herringbone. (either solid or an engineered) Emily Hendersen talks about redoing her space w/this oak https://stylebyemilyhenderson.com/blog/story-herringbone-flooring If I had the choice, i'd do the herringbone. it's beautiful and completely mcm appropriate This is a natural finish white oak. and love the idea in the bathroom to feather in ceramic tiles in the same herringbone in the kitchen you could do something like this w/some cool cement tiles around the perimeter: walnut stain color. 5 finger block parquet matches the finger oak herringbone, below: you could even do the finger oak herringbone to match your parquet (the planks are shorter) longer sizes. you could also do a herringbone surrounded by the regular planks.

All the plans have a trade-off in room shape, cost etc. I agree that putting the bathroom in bedroom #4, the room width is the trade off. The bedroom width is currently 10'10". If I look at the adjacent master bathroom toilet cubicle, it's not much wider than the closet in bedroom #4. So the closet is probably 24" and the master bathroom cubicle 30". If the OP is OK with a 30" width then the middle plan may be the best one, since it only takes 6" off the width of the bedroom making it 13'10" x 10'4", and eliminating any door swing into the room.

@tracefloyd I can't get rid of any dresser or put it in the closet. I have too many clothes. I was thinking about putting a waterfall bench at the end of the bed with two poufs that slide out from underneath to create a conversation pit. Similar to this photo

It would be cheaper than the doors to put in a window, true. We have siding so cutting through the wall is complicated. We put in a window in a windowless bedroom in the daylight basement and needed help to get the siding put back in order. What about the French doors? Ours has a single pane of glass in a wooden panel in each door. Instead of replacing the door, would it be hard to remove the glass and put in a window in its place that would open?

You could do that, though I think it would look a little strange going from the floor to 7' or so. Extra windows will definitely add to the value of your home.

How about screens for your French doors? There's several good retractable screens that keep the bugs out, and practically disappear when you close them. We have this model (below) for our front door, and it's also good for keeping cats inside.

I talked to my DH about adding a window and he said he would rather put in some kind of vent and a heat exchanger. He helped my son build one once for a science fair. He's not the one who has trouble sleeping from not enough fresh air. It would be OK with me if it works. We can't really leave the doors open in the winter for ventilation as too much heat would escape. A window could be opened just a crack. Besides, my plant shelves for starting seedlings are in front of the doors so we don't even use them at all.
