I hope she can beat this.

Leukemia is one of the side effects they said

I could get from the treatments for the transplant.

I read her article in Good Housekeeping magazine a few days ago. Very inspiring, and if this can be beaten, she is the one to do it.

Welcome Abbeyjo; Nice of you to let us know you are around, thanks for all the info. I am not anyone's mother but I have some wonderful nieces and nephews that I love to death and they reciprocate. It is truly a wonderful thing. I have been gardening for years and have been a member of GW almost since the beginning. There have been many changes as you can see by the ease of posting, posting pictures and the forums. There is also the availability of information on plants, diseases, etc. The round robin forum seems to be taking the place of the "Garden Party" although that might still exist, I have not visited there in quite a while, if it does. The MNF group is "Make New Friends" which is open to anyone interested in any robin. Most of the other robins have become more accepting of new members but there was a time when new people were not as welcome so this group was started to allow people to experience a round robin without all kinds of rules. Each host/hostess picks a theme and makes their own rules. It is really lots of fun and the best time to join a robin is in the growing seasons because then you trade plants. Not sure where you are from but here in the great state of Maine we have four seasons, summer, almost winter, winter, barely winter. We love summer for obvious reasons. Come visit the MNF swap in progress and think about joining the August swap. Welcome again. diene

I know and feel your pain. I lost my Mother about 23 years ago. She was the same age as I am now. I lost my Dad 6 years ago and my sister and two brothers in 2011 and 2012. I am the only one left of my family. I am just grateful that I was there with them in their last days. I still talk to all of them and sometimes even wish I could call my Mom. Be grateful that you have this time with her. Bless you and your Mom. You are in the thoughts and prayers of your KT Friends. Take care of yourself.

cece, the Marie Louise memoir first came out in a Penguin paperback. That's the one I have. If you can't find it, I'd be happy to send it to you, although my copy is tattered, since I got it second-hand. Dyno, I did not discover Hesse's "Demian" until I was well into adulthood. I liked it a lot, but even more, I loved his "Narcisse & Goldmunde." I know these books were cult lit in my youth, but somehow, I read his "Steppenwolf" instead and missed these. I really admire Hesse's writings, in general. The older I get, the more subtle and timeless they seem.

"naff" is somewhere between tacky and cutesy. Putting seasonal outfits on the goose garden sculpture on the front porch would be naff. In the last couple of years, I have taught a Cierra, a Deja (whose last name rhymed with Vu), a Jevon, two Skylars, one a girl, and one, with an "er", a boy; two Gages and a Sage, all boys; a Meea, a Tory (boy) and Tori (girl), a Destiny and a Lorelai. Taylors, Tylers, Jordans and Morgans of both genders. My DD is Jillian, often mispelled Julian-for instance, on her letter reminding her she must register for the draft. Speaking of teenagers naming babies- Both my children were required in 9th grade to take "Family and Consumer Science" and one of the units was parenting-and they each brought home the "Think-it-Over" baby doll as a required project. They pick up the doll after school and have the "parent wristband" attached-and you can not take the wristband off-it is removed the next morning at school. This doll is programmed to cry at frequent intervals all night, and the student must figure out what the baby wants-rocking, feeding or changing-place the wristband plug in the baby plug, and start doing whatever it takes to make it stop crying-within 3 minutes. This is all recorded on a computer chip in its little plastic head. I repeat, this goes on all night long. Daughter brought hers home, did the project, returned it-no name, no "how cute"...whatever. Do it, get an A, move on. My son went to pick up his baby and was asked by his teacher if his parents would object to a baby that did not match him ethnically-she told me later he stared at her and said "it's a doll. Why would they care?" and off he and baby went to volleyball practice. (There were 4 of the babies at practice that night-apparently it was riotous and non-stop crying!) He named his J-Qwan and at 2 a.m. the crying woke me up (did I mention that it cries all night long?) I heard him shouting from the bathroom "I'm coming J-Qwan-can't a father even p**?" LOL! His teacher told me later that she had received a blistering phone call from a father whose daughter had come home with a baby that didn't match her ethnically, so she was told to always ask. I've just "met" her because my DIL watches GMA. Robin has such an appealing personality as well as good looks. Hoping for a good outcome for her.

When I went through my cancer time this was one of the things my Dr told me, too. I sure hope the best for her. A positive attitude goes a long way. Determination is a winner...

I hope her leukemia will respond to treatment. Both my mother and two schoolmates died of this -- long, sad declines.

DH has been attending lectures his college presents for alums. Presenters for this series were all MD's and PhD's in Medicine.

One lecturer said everyone has had or will have 'cancer'. Often our immune systems take care of them, and we never know we've had them. He said that if one lives long enough at least one cancer will overcome our immune systems.

I wish I could remember which two cancers do not metastasize. I *think* they are pancreatic and liver.

Robin Roberts Has Bone-Marrow Disease, Will Get Transplant from Sister

Great that her sister can do this for her and I sure hope it is successful.

The Good Morning America anchor revealed Monday that she is battling MDS, or myelodysplastic syndrome, a disease of the blood and bone marrow and that she will have a bone-marrow transplant, with her sister as a donor.

This is indeed sad news - I remember how fiercely she fought breast cancer a few years ago. Come on, KT Prayer Warriors - let's get BUSY and pray for this dear woman!

I saw the announcement she made this morning - STRONG WOMAN!
Her Co-anchors and workers were right there for her. It said it was PRE-leukemia so I am hoping and praying that makes a difference. Adding her to my now long list for prayers.

The outlook for her is pretty good. The odds of being cured improve very much when you have such a good match as she has in her sister. I think she'll beat this. I hope so.

When I was in college, I recall seeing a girl die 7 days after she was diagnosed with leukemia. This was in the 1950s when this disease was not very treatable and fatal in most cases. Luckily, many advances have been made since then and better treatments are available.

I enjoy seeing her on t.v. I think she has had alot to deal with in her lifetime. Hoping and praying that she can beat this awful thing.
