I totally understand. It's a wonderful feeling isn't it? Especially when you're doing so much of it yourself, and it's taking forfrigginever and it all starts to come together.

I definitely understand. We are sheetrocking and finishing living room right now. It is the last room, and all the hated 70's paneling is gone. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, even though living room is going extremely slow, since I do all the taping, mudding, and sanding, and priming and painting, and I sort of missed a step last week on the ladder and broke my right wrist, so trying to get all this done left handed. Not an easy task right now. I cant wait to have it all finished. :-)Cat

I know how you feel. A room really starts to come together when the drywall is installed, especially when you watch a pro crew do it in no time right before your (teary) little eyes. Don't be so sure this is your last job though. Unless you're in your retirement home, you'll probably get the urge to tackle another project eventually, when this "baby" is a couple of years old, and you've forgotten about the labor pains.

Cat, you are the PERSON (not making any assumptions)! I worked myself sick and then decided I should stop--you work yourself into a broken arm and then keep *going*! Maybe the wrist is a way of the universe saying "slo--o-o-ow down"...?

And katydid, LOL about forgetting about the labor pains...when I told DH over the phone today about how I was feeling, DH said "and I can't wait to get started on our landscape renovation project"...I almost got sick to my stomach. I can't even think about another project yet, but notice I didn't say "never" :)

I did find several huge dents tonight that will need fixing by the mud guy tomorrow, though, so that's demystified the process for me a bit...

Where do I start? I get very emotional when we finish a project or a room. I woke up this morning thinking, "Okay, one more coat of trim color on the upstairs porch, restore two windows, and we are done for this season!" Then, I remembered that we just restored a window in one of the front rooms and I have to finish the interior trim. Once I do that, I'll need to repaint the two front rooms. Oh, I forgot that I painted test squares in the dining room where we also need a new ceiling. And crown molding.

I have grabbed every neighbor and asked them to come and look at the porch we rebuilt this summer. Some of them have done a really good job of containing their enthusiasm. They can't tell that the ceiling, a color I agonized over, is blue. They think it should be darker. I already have two coats on it! It's finished!

Me, emotional? Calm would be the less expected state. If you ever want to feel better about nearing completion, just shoot an email in my direction. Or, come for a visit. Make sure you bring some wine.

oh Fly!... how happy you must be... I know that moments like that are so special in this process!.. We are stuck in a place that only little stuff is getting done but I am trying to celebrate each thing done as a step closer to the end of the project. I also broke down a couple of months ago and let my dry wall guys come in a do my loft... it was a vaulted ceiling and there are no words for how much I hate to do ceilings!.. they were done in a day.. all the dry wall and the first coat of mud but 3pm.. I thought I might wet myself with joy!.. keep on rockin!

Maddie, who got two sheet of bead board up and is feeling pretty good about that!

Okay, I'm very sorry, but am I the ONLY women on earth who remembers her labor pains FULL WELL, as though they were yesterday?????

I love the little squirt, he was worth every bit of it. But those pains from six years ago are burned in my brain.

P.S. Howeva, the remodeling pains really do go away. it seems almost as if as soon as I finish something, I forget about it. As soon as I make a decision, I forget the waffling. As soon as I finished painting the windows, I forgot the drudgery. So that's good at least.

corgi, rebuilding a porch is a *big* thing...you made me LOL at the containing enthusiasm part--I'm LOLing again just typing it! :) :) I'm sure the ceiling is a *perfectly* beautiful color, knowing your great taste--the neighbors just can't see subtlety, that's all :)

Me, I'm really liking the color of the drywall plaster, a beautiful beige that creates a subtle dynamic with the light greyish-white of the drywall paper...everything looks pretty beautiful to me, especially now that we fixed all the mistakes the apprentice taper guy made when he overzealously drilled almost all the perfectly-dimpled ceiling screws in so they *broke* the drywall...YES, it really happened...I noticed it [thank god] and pointed it out and he really didn't know he wasn't supposed to do it--so his supervisor and the owner of the co. spent a couple of hours putting in new screws everywhere and I can be reasonably sure that the ceiling won't fall on us in a month--it's never nothin' but it's somethin'...

and maddie, I'm in shock that you let someone else touch your house...you who made your own stairs?? :) It is *amazing* how fast professionals can work, though, isn't it? I'm also really dying to try their stilts--did you get to? Before it's all done I'm going to have strapped those babies onto my shoes, I hope :)

I finally got into my comfort zone on my kitchen project this week-- I'm through with fireblocking, plastering and the last of the electrical rough-in. All of which jobs I either hate or am less comfortable with. I'm really overjoyed to be into doing woodwork now. So now the adrenaline rushes I get aren't anxiety attacks, they are pure excitement at being happy with all of the tasks at hand. (for a while, anyway)

yeh me.... who built her own stairs... it's just gets SO overwhelming some times.. I was doing school with the kids today and at some point noticed I was sitting on a bucket of drywall compound..not a chair.. I am just a little tired of the havoc. As for the stilts.. they did not need them in the loft since the peak is just a bit over 9 feet.. they stood on drywall buckets! :)

I do have to admit I am getting ready to hire again.. for my kitchen ceiling.. this time painters. It's a cathedral and is 22 feet at it's highest.. It's tongue and groove and needs to painted to blend with the new part of the kitchen.. there is no freaking way I want to paint that high up. I could. heck I drywalled our 18+ foor stairwell.. but this is one of the times when I am just as happy to let my money do the talking!!!

I think I found a new painting emotion. While standing on my front porch painting my windows and trim, I noticed the "For Rent" sign was removed from the home across the street. It is usually rented by law students, but this renter had his shirt tucked in. As I put the last coat on the last windowsill, he spoke. He's French! I don't think I like the new color anymore and may have to spend more time out front.

Michael,I think the bathroom is to the rear of that apartment. I can't wait for the trees to drop their leaves. The front room, which serves many purposes, is across from my computer. Does anyone remember the old Folger's commercials? I keep thinking he might come across the street to ask for a glass of any Cotes du Rhone. A girl can dream, can't she? I went to the wine store today...just in case.

What a wonderful thread. The sheetrockers were here for 5 hrs Friday and did the 50 sheets like it was so easy. I keep walking around and looking and smelling and patting....can hardly wait til the finisher gets here next week to start taping. We don't DIY but I do a lot of cheerleading ! Very emotional indeed. Caroline

The "FOR RENT" sign is back up! No more painting on the front of my house this year. My wonderful husband looked out the window and said, "Thank God!"
