Writing off Mortgage points

va_rosemary

We are going to refi and I just got a direct mail piece from our lender that said that itemizers can typically deduct mortgage points. It said they are usually prorated over the life of the loan; sometimes fully deductible in the year paid. My question would be how we could deduct them fully in the year paid. It's only a fraction of a point, but I'd still like to deduct the full amount if possible.

I don't do the taxes (thank goodness), but my husband does them and uses Turbo tax. He's the one that wanted me to post and ask my GW friends.

Thanks.
