Tip for Hanging Rod Pocket Drapes

I have rod pocket drapes in my Great Room that have been pulled to the sides with a holdbacks. I want to change the look and have them hang straight down. When I take them off the holdback, the drape keeps inching toward the center. Any suggestions for how to get the pocket to fit tighter around the rod and not inch forward. Double sided tape? Safety pins?

I hope I'm explaining this clearly. Thanks

You need something clipped to the rod which is larger than the opening in your curtain casings. I'm not sure what that would be - you'd have to use your imagination.

I guess another thought would be to safety pin the curtain casings so that the opening is smaller and fits more tightly around the rod. If it's tight enough, it should stay put.

If you don't ever want to close them all the way, you could cut a piece of matching ribbon to the width you'd like your drapes to be when hanging straight and pin one side of the ribbon to the left side of the casing and the other to the right side (on the back of the drape. They will inch no further than the width of your ribbon.

I just took a piece of packaging tape and taped the opening in the center to where I wanted it. It tapes in the back of the curtain and rod.

I'm a little foggy on this, perhaps I'm just not visualizing well...Are you asking whether the brackets holding the rod should be placed next to the edge of the window? If this is what you are asking, then, how would you push the drapes to hang 10" past the window frame with the bracket in the way? I must be missing something. On all my windows, and most recently, on this one near the corner of the kitchen, I hung my drapery rod brackets as far out from the edge of the window as I could, to widen the look of the window, and to allow the fabric to 'stack' full while only intruding into the actual window area the slightest amount. For this window, I had to allow a couple of inches for the finial to not bump the adjacent wall at the corner, so I was only able to hang the brackets 6" outside the window, otherwise, the drape rod with finial wouldn't fit. As a result, the drape does cover part of the glass. I don't like that, but I was limited by space. My window is only 35" wide, but it looks about 48" wide because of the draperies. Red

I have a little of everything in my house - they are all casual. My style is not formal at all. My LR drapes (a Pottery Barn paisley) are on rings and are lined. I can close them easily enough, but never do. My DR are top tabs just because I found a good deal on a casual heavy cotton with a texture in a sage color that I needed. It works for me. I don't usually like just valances, but they work better in my office because the desk sits under a window and I didn't want panels muddled up with all the cords,etc. I found a good deal on valances with back tabs. I never touch them and they hang very nicely at all times. I also have a valance on my kitchen window and they are shirred on the rod. My spare bedroom has light-weight white cotton shir-on rod pockets which suits the cottagy look I have going on there. I have white wooden blinds uner them. My master bedroom has white blinds with no drapes - looks fine with my "shades of beige and white". I think it mostly depends on the look you are going for, but also the fabric of the drape. I will NEVER have formal pinch-pleated drapes in my home in damask or silk. I love a good cotton or cotton/rayon blend.

I purchased from both Factory Direct Drapes and Penneys. The Penney drapes were for the 6 bedroom windows. They are okay for the bedrooms, the sides did not quite line up, the width was a little less on all 6 pairs, lining very thin, and they were very, very wrinkled... but the price was right $400 for all 6 pairs, with their sales. The Factory Direct Drapes were superior in choice of fabrics, workmanship and customer service. I requested several samples (free) 3-4 times as the colors varied from the monitor and it was difficult to gauge texture and weight. The drapes were for my tall dining room window, I ordered lined cotton plus voile sheers (as we face the street). I think I paid around $300 for just the one window, this was with the 50% discount! There is always a sale going on. I am picky. I wished I could have afforded Factory Direct for all my windows. I'm happy with both purchases.

Your drapes are thin so but I don't see why you can't hook some of the lightweight drapery pins into the tabs and hang from those. With 9" spacing you'll just have larger folds when the drapes are open. BTW, be sure to use the lightweight vs the heavy pins for your fabric. Since the tabs on your drapery headers are 'open' vs sewn vertically to the rod pocket they may tend to pull up unevenly when hung. I suggest you either sew, hand tack, or use fabric glue to secure the tabs to the rod pocket. If this doesn't make sense, let me know. I purchased my traverse rods from overstock and they have the faux rings already on the rods. I recently converted some grommet drapes using the pins and hanging on a traverse rod.......turned out nice.

Wrap a wide rubber band around the point on the rod where you want the curtain to stop, just inside the rod pocket. It provides enough friction to keep the curtain from creeping on the rod.

Or, if the rod is wood, you can thumbtack the curtain in the correct place on the back side of the rod. Obviously you would not use the brightly-colored plastic pushpins from your kids' bulletin board, use the flat, unobtrusive tacks.

thanks for the suggestions. Actually used electrical tape and it seems to be holding fine for now. That is until DD decides to have a sleepover in that room and pulls on all the drapes!!
