If you are having to cut holes into the lip of the sink, it is most likely, not a drop in sink. It is more likely an under mount sink meant for granite or solid surface. The proper sink for a laminate installation is a 'Self rimming' sink where holes for the sink lines already exist.

However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! If the 2" lip on the sink will allow for the faucet to be mounted through if properly, go ahead and cut the holes. It is not ideal but, it will work. I WOULD NOT mount faucet directly on the laminate. Especially if the decking for your laminate is particle board. Not great to mount thru plywood either. It can be done but, you will regret it the first time your faucet leaks.

The sink is from copper sinks online. It's suitable for under or over mount, 33 x 22. I puchased stock counter tops until I can decide on a quuartz. Until then the sink will be a drop in. There are no holes for the faucet. I only assumed a hole would be cut for in the rim and the same hole utilized when it was changed to an undermount. If the sink is 22 wide and the counter top 24 deep what other options do we have?

He's installing today and I don't want to ruin this exepensive sink. If this isn't possible, I will purchase an inexpensive sink until the quartz is installed.

I wouldn't mount the faucet on the 2 inch rim. My Mom has laminate and we chose a deckless drop in and mounted the faucet on the countertop (I intend to do something similar in the kitchen I'm working on now). In her case the lever is actually over the sink but even if it wasn't the deck plate for the faucet had a seal to help prevent water from reaching the substrate of the laminate. If you can coordinate the timing you can always poly the interior of the holes for the faucet for a bit more protection (I did the sink cut out but not the faucet as it would have meant slowing down the plumber).

I'm concerned that there is not enough room to mount like the pictures show. My counter top is only 24 deep, and the sink is 22 deep.

Good point that sink is only 18.5 inches wide. Can't see why you couldn't mount your faucet on the rim (is the plumber prepared for that - most rimmed sinks come with pre drilled holes - I don't have a clue how you do that). They will use clips or a cradle when they undermount it so the holes shouldn't effect installing it undermount later. The clearances around the faucet on the quartz may require a different placement of the faucet - still can't see how it would make any difference to re-using it. Getting your sink back is a big day, congrats. What laminate are you using?

My first choice for a counter top is either quartz or granite. Since I couldn't find anything I liked I puchased stock laminate counter top from Menards, but I'm not sure of the name. My intention is to live with this counter top until I find something I love. (most granite yards are hours away.)

I was going to use this copper sink as an drop-in and change it to an under mount when the new counters were installed.

I just spoke to a rep from Copper Sinks Online and I've decided not to install the copper sink at all, until the new countertops are installed.

Now, it's back to the lumber yard!

I have a friend who installed a drop-in copper sink (they can be undermount or drop-in due to a flat rim) on a laminate surface. They didn't quite have enough room for the faucet, so they simply cut out a portion of the rim to match the trim piece on the faucet and it looks great! You can definately cut into the rim or drill holes - either one - depending on your faucet type. When you undermount the sink later on, as long as you have left some flange there, you will never notice the cutout. ...same thing if you drill some holes - when you undermount it later, you will never see it and it won't hurt the integrity of the installation.

Good luck and please let us know how things turn out. I think we're buying the same sink and trying to find a solution to the same issue. We're putting in concrete countertops and are top-mounting the sink flush with the countertop, but I haven't yet figured out what to do about the faucet.

My carpenter's brother is a kitchen designer, and he suggested bumping the sink base out three inches if I was to use that big sink. I hate to start remodeling a kitchen that's not even done yet. CSO has a 20" depth sink, so I'm going to look at that option.

As I said before, I purchased a piece of stock laminate CT and a inexpensive SS sink, so at least I have running water in the kitchen. That will suffice for the 8-12 week wait for a granite or quartz top.

I am so ready to be done with this remodel.
