4th of July

what's everyone doing for the 4th?? we will probably be working on the yard and flower beds and cooking something on the grill. i want to order a wooden swing and frame and new wrought iron patio table that will be delivered on the 3rd, so we will have that in time. :)

Our plans are to have a cookout and pitch in dinner at Amber and Mike's the evening of the fourth. We gals also plan to go to a barn sale in the morning of the fourth.

We have no plans yet. I hope the thunderstorms clear up and I can go to the pool. Other than that, I'd like to catch up on a few things at home, grill something for lunch/dinner and just relax a little.

We always had them when we were kids. Supervised of course, but with Reservation shops in all 4 directions, the only thing limiting what could be bought was the budget. It's been a lot of years since we've done much with fireworks ourselves. Our city would have a display (not this year) that we didn't even have to go out for, we could view it from above and across the river at the living room windows. Current city restrictions are 9 AM until midnight today only for igniting any kind of fireworks and all the 'good stuff' is banned now. I've been hearing fireworks noises for the last three days though, and off and on all day today.

I made hot fudge sundaes with homemade hot fudge. I've never made it before but it was basically a cocoa fudge recipe and easy to make. I made half a recipe but will cut back on the cream a little next time to make it thicker. I think most of the events in my state are on Tuesday. Some of the local neighborhood things were on Saturday or Sunday. One of our big city events that normally features fireworks is doing a drone lightshow. I'm not planning to attend, but I am curious if it might be more interesting than fireworks. To be honest, I've lost interest in watching fireworks in adulthood. I've gone a few times, but it's not really that enjoyable for me. I remember enjoying them as a kid. Fireworks are banned in my neighborhood due to fire danger. We are too close to the mountains and some other natural fire hazards so the fire department has outlawed them. Of course several neighbors regularly fire them off illegally. And just last year a neighbor one street over lost an entire hedge to fireworks and they are lucky the pine trees and the house didn't catch on fire. I'm not certain if it was their own fireworks or someone else's. People set them off and then run inside and hide so the police and fire department don't catch them. Our whole state used to limit what types of fireworks could be set off (no aerials) but then presumably after some lobbying, they removed that ban. We are a desert state and have terrible wildfires. Every single year fires are started by fireworks around the 4th (and the 24th - our state holiday). My dog is seven years old and up until last year never had any issues with fireworks or other loud noises. All of a sudden last summer she began to develop anxiety from thunderstorms, loud construction at the neighbor's house, and fireworks. It's sad and there's absolutely no cause that we can determine. She is an incredibly stable tempered dog who is not afraid of noises in general. My understanding is that at least with thunder, the dogs physically feel it beyond just the audible noise. I wonder if fireworks are the same.

Working. I also picked up overtime the day before. Thank goodness I don't have to work the day after!

They passed an ordinance according to the local paper that says you can't shoot fireworks within 200 feet of a building, person, animal...and I don't remember what else. which means my neighbors can't shoot their fireworks off in our neighborhood. I'm so glad. They usually start in early June and don't stop for weeks after the 4th. I never get any sleep this time of year.

My dog is terrified of fireworks and thunder. I used to give her a tranquilizer prescribed by a vet.

I have a new orphan kitten I am taking care of and I had minor surgery yesterday, which feels major this morning. And I am taking care of someone's 8 dogs for two days while they go to the beach. :(

Today would have been my mother's 109th birthday. That is hard to comprehend that she would have been so old! Happy birthday, Mama.

Other than the neighborhood fireworks, we're having a quiet day - it's nice not to have someplace we have to be, there haven't been many of those days for a while now.

Everyone be careful of your pets - I spent much of Tuesday helping look for my former neighbors Pom - she had been anxious with the fireworks noises and run away the night before. She never runs, not farther than the house at the end of the lane where there are several cats to get her attention. Her 'Mom' was distraught, feeling so guilty she hadn't considered the possibility...and, she'd taken the collar off the dog to make her more comfortable so she was out there lost and nameless.

Pup turned up after 24 hours, she had gone to the door at a 7-11 two miles away and asked to be let in. The clerk there did let her in and took her home with her when she got off her night shift, found the Missing Pet notice on the PAWS website that evening and called. Happy reunion.

kathsgrdn - I really hope your city enforces the fireworks by-law. We live in Toronto and have such a by-law - it is a serious joke. We had our equivalent to July 4 on July 1 - and all weekend those strip-like firecrackers - the ones that sound like gun shots were going off non stop - even at 3:00 a.m. on July 2. The average Joe isn't even supposed to be able to buy them yet on a main street there is a store that sells fireworks exclusively - and it has remained open for years. The police doe nothing - but the parking police hit the main drags - that can be counted on. Let's hope you fare better than we did - on July 4 and other fireworks occasions.

Kids went camping, GD's kids went to picnic with friends, and us old people at home--peace and quiet, Very little fireworks in town yet, but then not many kids in town either. With DH getting over his chemo treatment and with the side effects, we are just glad to stay home where he can rest.

just a quiet day at home. I'm getting ready to take a hike up the hill behind us to get some pictures. Then, I'm thinking about running to the store for charcoal and firing up the grill here at the apt complex and inviting anyone who wants to join me to throw some meat on the fire. I'll pick up a tub of potato salad and a watermelon, and call it good.

Used to be my favorite day of the year. Parade, fireworks, BBQ's, family and friends gathered downtown. Everyone knew everyone ... now it's just a humongous drunken brawl, fighting, stabbings, profanity ... makes me extremely sad! I don't go anywhere near our beautiful lake this time of year.

Quiet day here also. Just getting over bronchitis and sinusitis after 2
different antibiotics and 2 bottles of cough medicine Right ear still shut
hoping it pops soon. Happy July 4th!!!

I am back from a 52 mile bike ride, mostly with Mel. We ride towards each other, then where ever we feel like, then split and back home.

I had a GREAT fireworks display to watch last night, on the local fairgrounds (not very far from me).

There are lots of options for tonight, but I think I will just stay in.

yard work since it wasn't raining! dh got out a slab of ground meat and hot dogs!!! omg there is only the 2 of us! he wants to bbq...

did you see on line how to cook hot dogs? they stuck a stick thru the dog then made a spiral cut, and then grilled! with my luck it would fall apart...makes the goodies (relish ect) stick better!
