Comments (4)Foam rollers are crater makers. Fine for getting paint up but you need to quickly follow with a high quality brush to tip off. Test your skills first on the inside of a closet door to get the hang of it. In the meantime, let your cabinet doors dry a few days to harden up, then lightly sand them to smooth out the orange peel. Comments (13)Granted, smooth walls are very hard to do well, and every little nick or wave in the drywall shows. But when done well, and painted well, it's pretty amazing. And it makes the room look bigger because you lose a visual sense of where the wall actually is, especially if you use a flat finish. I just got so tired of 11 years of that knock-down collecting so much dust and dirt. Another alternative is that with each successive painting of your textured walls, the pattern disappears as the paint builds up. When we bought our house, I immediately painted the bedrooms and noticed a huge difference, especially since I used 2 coats. Comments (1)Well, I'm not a pro but I've been hanging out in these forums for a few years. The consensus is smooth finish is preferable in nearly all situations. Not sure on the 6k. But it is more difficult for the drywallers....See Moreknockdown, orange peel or smooth?
Comments (1)Smooth texture is always the way to go! I would recommend using a highly recommended drywall guy if you are going to consider moving forward with the texture of the walls. You could always consider squaring off the corners of the walls or changing your baseboards, casing and crown to a more modern squared off style but saving you on the bucks....See Moreheavydaiper
