Where Do I Want to Live?

Stacy's "I hate summer" post prompted me to write this. I am getting to the point where I'm starting to think about where I want to "retire" to. It's still a number of years away, but I'm thinking. Here are the particulars:

- I won't have family ties to any particular area

- I certainly have lots of friends, but some are already moving to various parts of the country and others are planning to. So there will be very few who are left around here.

- I live in New England now. Although I love New England, and especially love Spring and Fall, I hate the winters. The summers are bearable, but can get too hot (for me).

- I don't like extremes of any kind (cold, heat).

- I love being in the yard, either working in it or, better yet, sitting in the yard with a nice gin and tonic, a book, and a cat or 2 (not necessarily in that order!) enjoying the birds, the trees and flowers, and waving to people who go by.

- I could deal with temps between 40 & 90 (both ends are a stretch, but I could deal with them).

- Ideal would be 65-85

- Not major city, but one close enough so that I could get to it in under an hour.

- I'd want no less than 1/2 acre of land; preferably more.

Not sure what else. Weather is very important.

Thoughts?
