2009 Fat Quarter Swap

We have had fat quarter swaps on this forum for a number of years and they have had good participation at times. I will not be hosting this swap next year and just wanted to give a heads up notice in case someone else on the forum wants to take over this responsibility.

Being the hostess for this swap is not difficult or very time consuming. You simply state the guidelines, swap dates and categories for the coming year, then swap the fat quarters when they arrive and put them back in the mail after you have swapped them out.

I would advise no more than 6 swaps a year as each month is more of a burden on the hostess and the swappers. I would also advise the participants to mark their calendars and keep up with their commitment to the swap.

Here's hoping a forum member will step up and decide to host our Fat Quarter swap next year.

I have not done a fabric swap before but I have hosted seed swaps on the gardening round robin page 5 or 6 times and been in many more swaps.
I don't know if I can host the whole year but I would be able to host at lease one in jan or feb then again in the summer, if someone wanted to take turns hosting with me that would be great.
also I don't know the kind of rules and requirements (size, numbers and so on) you all usualy like for a swap. if someone has any info that would help me set up rules and requierments for a swap please let me know. when I have the time I will do a little looking around for info from past swaps.

I have been lurking on this page for a week or 2 hopping someone would start a new swap I could join.

Thank you for replying. I hope someone else will step up to the plate and co-host the swap with you.

Here are the guidelines that I posted for last year's swap. You can follow them or not - but just be sure to be very clear with whatever guidelines you want use. We have had as many as 12-15 swappers, but only had 4 for the November swap this year.

Guidelines and notes from 2008:

As it appears we have enough interest on this forum for a fabric swap, I am announcing a Fat Quarter Swap today for the coming year 2008. There is no need to sign up, simply send me a private email to tcrouzer at yahoo dot com and I will reply to you with my mailing address where you are to send your fabrics.
Please read the swap guidelines carefully and follow them. Your fabrics will be returned if you neglect to follow the guidelines.
~ This swap is limited to participants on this Forum.

~ Fabrics sent should be 100% quilters' cottons - no home dec or poly/cotton blends. "Send fabric you would like to receive back."

~ Please be considerate of others: if your home has smokers or if you have furry/feathered critters that like to lay around on your fabric, please wash your swap fabric and keep it contained in a sealed zip bag until time to mail it. We would all like to receive clean, fur-free fabric.

~ Size: approximately 18-inches by 22-inches also known as a quilting Fat Quarter.

~ Send a minimum of one set: buy 1 1/2 yds. of 100% quilters' cotton, cut it in half down the entire length of the fabric. Cut these two half lengths in 3 pieces each that are approximately 18"x22" each. Keep one FQ for your stash and put the other 5 into a zip bag and seal it.

Optional: You may send all different FQs if you wish or two of one design and three of another, etc. but all fat quarters must be of the designated theme.

Optional: you may label your FQs with a pinned or thread basted label with your name and location if you wish. Do not use gummed labels or tape. [they fall off]

*** You may send a maximum of two sets, but depending on how many quilters are swapping you may get some of your own fabrics back.

~ Put your zip bags with your set(s) into a large mailing envelope along with an 8 1/2" x 11" or larger mailing envelope with your name and mailing address on the front and return postage IN STAMPS to cover the return of your fabrics. DO NOT USE METERED POSTAGE FROM THE POST OFFICE ON YOUR RETURN ENVELOPE! Sorry for yelling that but it is necessary. A little extra postage on your return envelope would be helpful on the off chance that you are short.

~Mark your calendar now with the upcoming dates and swap themes:

February 22, 2008 - Blue and Yellow - florals, batiks, prints with both blue and yellow colors in the design

April 4, 2008 - 1930s Reproduction Prints - any color, any design (circles, floral, plaid, cute animals/people, etc.) no solids, please

June 6, 2008 - Red, Red, and More Red - red tone-on-tone, red background with tiny figures in another color, red batiks, if floral, the background should also be red, red paisley, the fabric should say "RED"

September 5, 2008 - Neutrals - medium to light gray, beige, tan, taupe, gray-blue, gray-green, cream, champagne, and print or batik

November 7, 2008 - Paisley - any color but should have the specific paisley pattern

Please no holiday or children's prints unless they fit the category for the swap.

At a hospital here they now have a digital mammogram that is much better picture wise than the old mammogram and a lot less painful. A saliva test for breast is being studied. Cut and paste. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22594117/ I have cystic fibroids in my breasts. Two years after a breast reduction an ultrasound found at least 18 fibroid cysts. My mother had breast cancer in her 30's and fought it for years and died when she was 49. That was 31 years ago. Treatment for breast cancer has come a long way. I don't mind if I get some of my own back. I really liked the fabric I chose. Thank you for heading this up. I'm really excited to get my package. This was my first swap, but for future reference (for me)....are we SUPPOSED to wash the fabric? The "rules" above mention washing if there are pets or smoking in the house. I did not wash as I have no pets or smoking in my home. Then I wondered if I was supposed to do that anyway. Thanks, Salijo
