I'm UNGRATEFUL!!

I am pretty upset right now but I had a visit from Handsome Ken to calm me down.

The witch next door and her husband trimmed the tree on the property line last night - I mean they did a major trimming. They even took down the branch that the squirrel nested in. I loved watching that squirrel! In the spring he would be chased out of his hole by a bird and then everytime he went to go home she would attack him. She wanted the hole for her nest. This happened year after year and it was quite comical at times. Now the branch is gone and it was on my side too.

So while waiting for Ken I am sitting here and the witch gets up on a ladder and starts trimming what remaining shade I have left. My living room window faces west and it can be unbearable in here at times with the sun and that little bit of shade helped. The branches weren't thick enough to be rotten. I went outside and said "why are you taking what is left of the shade I have?" I said I need those branches to block the sun. The witch said "you should be grateful. What???? Those branches were not even near her house and were on my side and then because I said something she deliberately cut down the rest of the branches on my side. Oooh, I was mad. Then Handsome Ken showed up and when I told him what she said he got me laughing.

I gave him a container of sugar cookies and banana bread and one for him to give to Neighbour Ken. He said I guess you want your container back. It was from the dollar store so I said he didn't have to but could if he wanted to because I always welcome a visit from him. LOL

Now I am sitting here typing this and hives are popping out on my lip. I don't get mad very often but right now I am. Grrrrrrrrr

I should be grateful. Who does she think she is?? She should be grateful we have put up with her alcoholic self and her crack using daughters.

Now I have to mow the grass because severe weather is moving in and will be here around noon and I dreamed about tornados last night.

So sorry your neighbor is such a witch. It is not right that she trimmed the branches on your side. Glad you got to see HK, though! Maybe you could have him come and put up a set of blinds to block the sun and the witch. Hmmmm.

Anne...I understand how you feel...

Maybe you can go to a nursery and get a Maple tree on sale.

They grow pretty fast.

Denny and I put one on the west side of the house about three years ago. We are getting lots of shade from it now.

Then put one of those ugly tree faces on it facing her house...maybe you can find one with it's tongue sticking out.....LOL

Also....maybe an awning on that window would help you.
Try freecycle...you just might find one. Maybe handsome Ken would make something for you.

I've been trying to research all of your wonderful suggestions. lavender lass: Yes, I'm in Spokane. Good deduction by the way. :) The alyssum did quite well and for the most part fit the bill perfectly. I'm just trying to minimize the amount of annuals I plant each year. Gardengal: Thank you for those suggestions, I really like the Saponaria Ocymoides, it is going on my definite maybe list. CMK: Also thank you very much, I'm adding the Origanum Rotundifolum 'Kent Beauty' to the above list. I really like this one too. Yikes! I don't want anyone over at the kitchen site to think I'm ungrateful for all I learned over there because there are really many great knowledgeable people. However, there is a biased against OTR micro's overall (but not all). So, as even a budget kitchen is such a big expense, I did sort of worry about the OTRM and how it was all going to look compared to many of the magazine worthy kitchens. However, I didn't worry so much that I decided to over spend to change it. I actually like the micro over the range because I can multi task all in one area and I finally have counter space. Although the set-up may not be good for the elderly or very short people, statistically there are more kitchen burns from appliances counter height and down. I do love how my DIY kitchen came out and although my kitchen looks nothing like Mrs. Limestone's I knew OTR micro's do not have to spoil the look because hers is so pretty. When my sister married a second time, she tried being nice to her steps, didn't work and she cut them out of her life. Her husband went to their homes to visit. If they came to my sis's home, she would have an appt. It sounds harsh but there were no young children. She had a much more peaceful second marriage than I did. I did the same thing after 30 years of marriage, but couldn't do it at the beginning because if I didn't go with my husband to visit them he would not visit. I straddled the fence for 30 years when they finally crossed the line and wouldn't help me with their Dad when had AZ.

I would be shocked if my son was thoughtful enough to send me flowers, I get nothing on mothers day, not even a mention. I'm waiting for the day he will want to do something but maybe it will never happen. I don't give my mom any knickknacks, she's got packrat/hoarder tendencies, their house is full of stuff. And every time I tried to give her gifts as a kid they would be heavily analysed and I felt horrible after. It makes me sad to hear all this complaining about gifts, so who gives a xxxx about whether the flowers are the wrong colour, you can put red and magenta together, they're just geraniums. Or put them in the backyard. Or trade with a neighbour for some zucchini. Speaking of, one of SILs gave me some zucchini, on a grocery store tray, it was hilarious. One of the saddest gifts I have received was from my son and hubby who bought a ton of perfume for me when everybody who knows me in the slightest knows I get ill just being near a perfume department, that was an inconceivably thoughtless gift that was presented as a grand gesture.

Oh Anne, I am sorry. I know how you feel on this one. She shouldn't have touched the branches on your side at all. I can understand your feelings.

At our old house, I had a lovely wisteria bush on my side of a wooden fence. One day when we were away, our neighbour came over and chopped the whole thing down and left it strewn across our back yard. Each year I eagerly waited for the spring blooms and absolutely loved my bush. I gave it haircuts each year so that I would maximize the blooms. Our other neighbour was so jealous that it wasn't on her side of our property, she loved it! I was heartbroken.

When Dennis spoke to him to tell him how upset we were, he refused to apologize and said to Dennis...."I don't want to talk to you, you have a problem". We should have called the police and charged him with destroying our property and tresspassing. We no longer live there now, we moved partly to get away from him. My wisteria was sending out runners and I know how difficult it is to kill completely. It may get it's revenge! I certainly hope it does.

He had a huge backyard with just grass and doesn't like any plants. Landscaping with different plants with colour and texture is a hobby of mine.

I'm sorry about what happened with your oh so lovely neighbour AND that you're getting hives, but I can't help laughing at the thought of you popping more and more hives the madder you get. :)

Anne,I'm sorry you have such a disagreeable neighbor.I would have really had a fit when she cut the limbs on "MY" property.I wouldn't have been as nice as you!Maybe you could just have Handsome Ken cut down the whole tree now since the shade has already been ruined for you.Wonder what the nasty neighbor would think about that?LOL

Sorry about your tree but no one has control over what a neighbor can or can't do to their property. I could tell stories about all of our neighbors. Everyone up here lives on 2.5 acres and you would think that would be enough land to play with so that they would leave the property line alone, but no. We just had neighbors plant shrubs that will be huge someday right next to the deer fence. What are we suppose to do when it grows through the fence and interfers with our landscaping? And then there are neighbors who cut the branches off of our trees that have grown over their side, but planted 8 ft. away. They really look good from the street now - not! I could go on and on. You can't win.

I'm sorry that you lost branches that were important to you.

Did she make the cut(s) over her property, or over yours?

Did she drop the limbs on her yard, or yours?

She had no right making cuts over your property (for all the good that does, once the limb is gone).

Clare,

When the branches, limbs, whatever, come through your fence/over your property ...

... you have every right to cut them off.

If it would endanger the life or health of the tree, it would be fair to discuss the situation with the neighbour, I think.

On the other hand, if you cut off major branches on your side, which result in the tree being heavy on the neighbour's side, and it gets blown down in a windstorm, causing damage to their house or property, substantially due to its lopsided weight, you might get sued.

I think that there's a good chance that you would prevail, the neighbour being told that he should have planned ahead more effectively before planting his tree, that he had no right inflicting the branches of his tree on/over your property.

In many areas that would be the result, almost certainly.

I love my neighbors. Harmony is important to me. When I was on vacation one of my trees fell over on their basketball net and the net fell on their boat.

I had been home for only a couple of hours when she called.

"Did you know we had a storm and your tree fell over here?"

I was so tired, I didn't even ask if it damaged anything. I said "I'm sorry I'll take care of it tomorrow". Thinking I'd just go chop it up and haul it off.

"Gayle, its a pretty big tree, you might want to come look at it". I hadn't even got the Motorhome unpacked yet. But, I'm a good neighbor, right?

I went to look. OMG! She had truely understated the problem. I couldn't believe what I saw. LOL! She was so nice about it.

I had to pay a professional to remove the tree. Thank goodness the net was OK and the boat had not damaged. I really appreciate how she handled it.

My neighbors are nothing like that. I am so blessed. On my right is Joe, a retired firefighter who apponted himself "Neighborhood helper". He brings in my garbage cans and shovels our walkway when it snows. On the other side is Helen, a widow about 80. She is very spry, I see her out walking or driving just about every day. She had a tree that hung over over swimming pool. It shaded it and dropped leaves. DH asked her if she would get it cut down, he would pay her the cost of cutting it down. She insisted on paying half! Such a sweetie. I'm never moving, I'd hate to have a bad neighbor!

I'm UNGRATEFUL!!
