Caulk or grout between granite counter and travertine backsplash?
Comments (3)I was hoping for some expert advice on this. I cross-posted this message in the kitchen forum as you know, sorry for that. I'm just so desperate for some good advice. I'm nervous about approaching this with him...any ideas on how to go about it? Also, did you see my question about the "grout removal tool" someone mentioned? What is that and how does it work? Also, have you ever worked with split face travertine? He used way too much grout on that and then left a lot of there to dry (so it is still there.) Looking like lovely grouty travertine....See MoreDecorative tile BETWEEN granite countertop and granite backsplash
Comments (5)Yes, that would be easier, but I would really like the look of the liner between the granite pieces. The finished ends will only be on the vanities, and I can disguise those with grout or matching caulk. There are no exposed edges at the tub... it is in a niche that butts up against each of the vanities. So, in your first scenario, why do you say to use caulk and not grout between the top and bottom of the tile and the granite? I was thinking of this order: 1) put up cement board 2) set the decorative tile (being careful about making sure it is the correct depth for the backsplash) 3) let the thinset dry completely 4) glue on the backsplash 5) let the glue dry completely 6) grout the decorative tile (????) 7) caulk the top of the granite backsplash What do you think?...See MoreNeed help choosing granite counter top and back splash
Comments (3)If you have trouble visualizing what you'd like but "know it when you see it", then at this stage you should probably just look at as many stainless / dark cherry kitchens as you can and see which countertops and flooring "grab" you. In my case I knew I wanted simple, natural cherry cabinets and stainless appliances and probably a wood floor, but that was it. Looking at lots of pictures helped me narrow things down, so now I can at least have intelligent conversations with kitchen designers. I'd suggest going over to houzz.com and entering "stainless steel dark cherry kitchen" into their search box and looking through some of the hundreds of results you get. It's a great source of ideas. After you see some you like, you can probably come up with more words to add to the search box to narrow things down. You can also go to google and enter "site:gardenweb.com dark cherry stainless" and you'll find lots of threads on this site too. I don't know of a way to limit it to threads with photos, unfortunately. Laura...See MoreBacksplash Between Counter Heights
Comments (15)Devans I think it looks really nice too even if the tiles need to be cut down to fill it in I think it gives a nice consistent clean look. Kitchen guys are suppose to start with my kitchen demo in 3 weeks but they have been slow moving in the process thus far so we'll see! Also, just found out that the Quartz I'm looking at is only available in 2cm not 3cm like I wanted :( they are telling me they won't know if I can get the 3 cm for another 2 weeks. Which means backsplash after that! Ugh! It's like a waiting game. If all goes as planned I would hope it's all done in the next 4-6 weeks, but I'm not holding my breath. Lol. Regarding grout I am undecided ...I like white because it's such a nice clean look but I also really like a little darker color to make the tiles pop with a little contrast. I love lisar789's warm grey grout with white tiles her kitchen is beautiful! She did sample boards to see color differences which is a great idea! Here's the link when she was deciding that I found very helpful :) https://www.houzz.com/discussions/help-need-grout-color-advice-asap-dsvw-vd~4006050?n=77 Let me know what you think ? I'd be happy to post pics when done but I bet you'll beat me to it! When are you thinking to have it done?...See Morefelixnot
