Karin, sorry about your dog. My mother calls them "fur people." I know how attached we get to our animals and it so sad to lose them. Take good care of yourself.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I too have a furry soul buddy and I can't imagine how I'll be when her time comes. I'm very lucky that I can bring her to work with me every day, so I think our remodel shouldn't be too stressful for her.

Oh, Karin, I sympathize . . . Last December we had to put down our 13 year old Golden Retriever, Sam, and my heart is still aching. I'll get a puppy, but not until the new house is done because we'll be in an apartment till then. They truly are our fur babies . . . Hugs to you!

I am very sorry to hear about your dog. Take care of yourself and your two cats. (Make sure they have fresh air too. Some of the materials used -- hardwood floor glue, IMO -- can be hazardous.)

Wow that is just heartbreaking to me. My dog is my special buddy, I would be completely lost without him. I am terrified of anything happening to him while I remodel, so I chose to bring him to a kennel during the day while there are workers in the house. Costly, but tradesmen's priorities are getting their work done, not keeping doors closed.

I love rotties, and I can't imagine how terrible that decision must have been for you. You are in my thoughts.

Karin, I'm truly sorry to hear this sad news about your dog. Having to put them down is just the hardest thing in the world to do. It's especially hard when they get sick in the middle of a remodel and you've got so many other things going on to deal with. Sending you lots of ((((hugs)))).

What a difficult time for you and your family (including the four legged one). I can truly sympathize with you. Know that your sweet beastie is over the Rainbow Bridge and will meet you on the other side.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

So sorry to hear about your loss - our animals really touch our souls. Our 18-yr old Maine Coon, Max, died almost two years ago now, you never forget a great pet. On the bright side, we now have two Russian Siberian kittens who delight us all the time with their antics. Best of luck with your remodel and subsequent new furry friend! Hugs!

Oh my heart breaks for you and the loss of your darling companion! I'm so very sorry. I love my babies (the furry ones) so very much. It makes it harder that it's during a time of turmoil at home.

I'm glad to hear that things are progressing well on the remodel though. I know with my kitties, one hid under the blankets and the other tried to escape to go play with the workers all day. Funny how they act. :)

I am so sorry! Rotties are wonderful, stoic dogs and they just don't live long enough. I'm sorry that your girl was hurting. Do you have any idea what was wrong with her? What an awful thing to happen.

Our rottie girl is a rescue and we refer to her as the neu-rottie (as in neurotic) since she has so many issues. We boarded her days during the renovation so that she would be away from the noise and the strangers coming into "her" home. I think that she actually had an easier time of it than we did.

It sounds like your work is going well & smoothly (a miracle). Good luck with all of it.

Karin - so sorry to hear about your fur baby...our dog had a hard time dealing with it as well...hope the rest of the renovation goes through smoothly...

Hugs from all of us. Please make sure you take care of your family( furry ones included). REmodeling is stressful enough and then to add the death of a beloved family member on top of it....... just make sure you give yourselves space and time to grieve.
Enjoy watching your new creation come to life with the other critters in the home and take some pleasure in knowing that your beloved rottie had a wonderful life and was greatly loved, she knew this I am sure. Spring is here and the beauty of the season may help ease your pain.

Karin, I'm so sorry about your dog - they do get to be part of the family, don't they? My sister-in-law has lost 3 Rottweilers to bone cancer in the hind legs. It seems to be a problem with that breed. She said she can't bear to get another one because it hurts so much to lose them. I know this makes your renovation even more stressful. Make sure you find a very special piece of artwork for your new kitchen that represents the special love you had for your long-time friend.

Your posting brings tears to my eyes, esp. since I have a German shepherd who is getting on and I know our time together is now limited.
The very best read is a children's book called "Dog Heaven". I found it a couple of years ago at my public library with my daughter. I still read it every now and then(it ranks right up there with " I will love you forever" by Robert Munsch. She brought it to school and her kindergarten teacher loved it so much we had to get her a copy. Now every time a school pet dies(hamster, etc), the class to which it belongs writes a mini book modelled on it. I can't remember the author, and I've packed away the book into storage till we move. Sorry.

oh karin, I'm so so sorry about your dog. I haven't been on here much because on 3/21 I had to put my 10 y/o lab mix down and have been on the pet boards alot. It is such a hard thing, for the first two weeks I wouldn't even want to open my eyes in the morning because I knew she would not be laying on her bed next to mine and I couldn't bare walking into the house because I knew she wasn't going to meet me at the door. She was such a trouper through the remodel but I would have waited to do it if I had known that she was so sick. I was told she had a torn knee ligament and it turned out she actually had bone cancer. Hug your kitties. I have two calicos (who don't miss the dog!) and they have been some comfort.

Thank you all for you kind words. The sad thing about this dog is that she was my fourth rottie, but the least liked out of all my dogs. So I wasn't as emotionally attached to her as I was to my others, I still felt horrible about making the decision that an animal is going to die. My boss said that I should think of it as to how lucky she was, because if anyone else had her, she would probably have been put down, or just a guard dog at some industrial park. Which is true, she was difficult and lucky to be living with me. Those words made me feel better.

Every day gets a little easier, but it is just a weird feeling to go from a home with a dog to a home without a dog. I think about taking a walk with the dog and then realize there is no dog. Also I felt very secure with her, because she was an excellent watch dog. I didn't realize how secure I felt until she was no longer in the home.

Thanks again for all your hugs!!! I will try to post some pictures next week of some of remodel happenings.

Your pain is very real and I wish you fond memories of your dog. She came to you for help and you did just that for her, she is in a better state now. Good luck.

Your story touched me and reminded me of all my dogs, but especially one, that I have lost. It has been 24 years since Ziggy passed but that dog was with me during one of the hardest times in my life - I will miss him always. Take care and much fun and happiness with a new fur baby.

So sorry about the loss of your friend, family member and companion. I truly understand the loss you are feeling and it must be extra difficult while going through a remodel.

Looking to the future, please consider either your local Humane Society or Petfinder.com when it comes time to bring another canine member into the family. Both my "golden" girls came from pet rescues and I became so impressed by their work, I now volunteer once a week at the Humane Society here in the adoption center. (Another idea for you to spend time with doggies while you get ready for another friend!)

Sending my hugs to you as well. I had a seal-point siamese that I had to put down after 17 years. She did the exact same thing as your guy. I had no idea that it could end that way. Her suffering was awful, so I felt a little better about it. Plus, my brother-in-law worked at a vet hospital and I was able to have him do it. My nephew worked there too, so he picked her up and took her to his dad. I'm glad I didn't have to go.

Anyway, glad things are going strong on your kitchen. Sending happy thoughts about your new kitchen and getting a new best friend.
