To everyone going on retreat

I hope you all have a fabulous time and that the weather is wonderful. You can't help but have a good time with all that uninterrupted sewing time. And I haven't even mentioned the food. I am taking a hiatus this year but will look forward to seeing pictures of the quilt show and of those people I've come to know so well. Travel safely everyone.

Well now, these two weeks later, what I need up there is rain! Had a nice all-day half-incher or so here but 60 miles north, it petered out to nothing. So there's 6000 baby trees that have had only one little rain since being planted, and now some actual warmth to help dry things out. Dern it, can't win with weather. Looked very briefly at my seedlings yesterday. Was up there for other purposes and had to hurry. Now with the pine and spruce, there is of course no apparent foliar damage from that cold night back when this thread started. Some of the larch-sure enough they look toasted. But a whole bunch more look okay, albeit dry like the rest. Funny thing is, it's the ones at the top of the slope that look like they got frost damaged whereas the ones down yonder on the low end of that slope look good. But the main point of all this? These trees are on their own! Whatever happens happens at this point. +oM PS....it's not really dry up there-the forest is as moist as can be. But these seedlings were planted up in an open field and hence much more subject to drying out. Rain is forecast to become widespread by tomorrow night/Monday. Sure hope so!

Hi daisy08 and gardendaydreamer! I agree with how much fun it is to see all those little seeds sprouting... I was so excited when I learned about WS in the fall that I put mine out in November and then worried that I did it too soon but thankfully many of my pots have sprouted. I would have never thought to do something like this and I'm grateful to all the members who have shared their experiences (and reassured us first timers)

Eaglemom, congratulations on deciding to start! We'll be with you all the way. By all means arrange your home to serve and please you and your family. I have a sewing room, an office, and a parrot room from what should be three "spare" bedrooms, and also my master bedroom making four. Paint the walls whatever colors make you smile. Try decorating with colors you look good wearing, especially ones that reflect well on your skin; then you will look pretty in your own house. Have you looked through the room threads in our gallery for inspiration? It's like a huge stack of decorating magazines without pages of ads. Don't be afraid to experiment to find what's perfect for you. Paint is only paint... not that expensive and I think fun to do because the results are so fantastic. Except two stories up on a ladder. Paint "resale neutral" in those places so you won't have to do it again. But a bedroom? You can change the color as often as you like until you find the best for you. It's only paint! Remember, even the pros have problems with picking out just the right wall colors. Please yourself and hug your friend and say thanks, but no thanks. She can paint her own house white with colored accessories. If it's not your thing, don't get talked into it. This is Eaglemom's house and it has to have Eaglemom's personality in it. Above all, please yourself and your DH and you can't go wrong.

Well, I go away for 5 days and this thread has moved down several pages already??? We had a ball on our quilt retreat to the NC mountains! I finished a commissioned quilt, machine quilted the two baby quilts for the twin boys born in April, worked on my Apple Core English paper piecing wall hanging in reds, practiced lots of continuous line machine quilting on a Linus quilt, stayed up tooooo late, and ate tooooo much! Ha! We stopped at a great quilt shop in Boone today and I found a new pattern, Stepping Stones, and bought some red FQs and a "sky" fq also. I heard the wild turkeys again, saw a hummer, and some lovely gold finches. I'll try to post some photos this weekend. Teresa

If their infrastructure is not damaged from storms, we have internet access. Cell service is not as reliable. I like to stay connected :~)

Yes safe travels to everyone! I know you will have a good time.... I went looking through the archives to find pictures of past retreats. I felt like I was right there.... nobody ever looks the way you imagine them to, though!

I dream of going on a retreat sometimel but things like jobs and pets do create a hindrance!

Have a blast everyone, and please post lots of pics!

Enjoy, what more can anyone say. Will be looking forward to hearing all the details and seeing the pictures. Especially looking forward to meeting Kristine and Jean when they stop in Canandaigua following thier adventure at retreat.

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone! Hopefully, each and every one of you will get to experience a retreat of some sort, at some point in your quilting career. There's nothing like it!

There is wifi at camp, though last year it was sketchy because of recent storm damage. Prior years it was strong. There will already be at least a few laptops at camp which are usually available for others to check emails, etc. Beverly is our resident forum updater, with a few others helping out along the way.

Cell service works best down on the balcony of the dining hall. Some have had success in our sewing space, some not. It's a really good excuse to be out of touch, especially with responsibilities of home ;0

Fran, you will be missed! Hopefully you will be able to come next year! I just packed my carry-on bag with my sewing machine and lots of projects!!! No sewing tomorrow. It is so much fun - looking forward to seeing everyone!

I sure wish everyone on the board could make it. What fun that would be :-)

I won't miss the phone not working, but my family might! I'll bring my iPad which my dd will hate me for, but I know she will survive. I'll also bring a camera. It actually lives in my purse, but I'm sure I'll need to bring the charger for it.

I'm getting very excited!! Last minute prep tonight then packing tomorrow.

I wish everyone could be there too! People who don't belong to a community like this forum can't imagine how connected you can feel to people you've never met in person. I would like to be able to put a face to every name!

This is my first year going YEAH!!! My sis from CA usually visits around the same time as the retreat.

I am so looking forward to meeting everyone! I joined in 2006 and enjoy our forum so much!

Maybe one day I will get to the GW Quilters retreat. I guess I will just have to be happy with going on my guild retreats....we have one coming up in Nov. and another in April.

If Kristene and Jean know when they will be in Niagara Falls it would be great to meet you!

Best wishes for a wonderful quilting retreat! I would love to attend some year but Oct. is a always a very busy month for me.
We want to see lots of pictures and hear of all your quilting adventures at the retreat! Have fun!!!

We will miss those who can't attend this year and hope you can make it another time. I will especially miss my traveling buddy, Carol. (Carol, watch for picutres!)

Tuppermom, Kristene and I expect to be in Niagara Falls on Mon., Oct. 29th.
