Installing engineered hardwood floors over concrete - noise?
Comments (3)Here are a few options: 1) If you'd like to nail it to plywood, install FloorMuffler over the plywood. This is a sound proof, moisture protection accoustic underlayment. 2) If you'sd like to glue down, use Taylor MS adhesive. It has a 25% noise reduction. Best Installation: Nail over plywood with FloorMuffler. My kind regards......See MoreCan I install tile or engineered wood floor over old tile?
Comments (4)there is no time frames ot limits on failures. chances are it will last 50 years. chances are also that tomorrow is can crack out and start the path to failure. it is a gamble. some win the roll of the dice and some lose. some customers are willing to take that gamble to save a few bucks onm removal. I can tell you of the huge numbers of replacements we do when customers come into our stores with complaints of previous installers/stores who have clad over an existing flooring product, had problems, then came to us to fix them. Actually I remember quite a few who came to us for a quote, then went with someone else when we told them something needed to be ripped out or extensively prepared to be done right, then had someone else do it "their way" to save a few bucks, only to come back to us and pay us to rip BOTH LAYERS out, buy new material from us, and pay us to install it again. That original few bucks they saved is now gone with much more wasted in labor and materials, so it ended up costing them exponentially more in the long haul. I am not saying this is the case with yours, but it is nevertheless a gamble. Standards exist because they give time and trade proven results. Doing it right the first time, there is little chance of failure....See Moreengineered floor over plywood on concrete (floorguy?)
Comments (4)agree 100% with floorguy. while moisture and vapor emission penetration into the installation area is always a concern with almost any flooring product being installed on on-grade or below-grade slabs, a good quality hardwood adhesive will also take care of the vapor/moisture barrier concerns becasue they are barriers themselves if properly applied to a properly prepared substrate. An experienced glue-down hardwood installer knows this. That said, there is no substitute for moisture testing. btw, cork is made from wood pulp and is not a moisture control product unelss it has a specific layer applied to it to act as such....See MoreEngineered flooring installed over ceramic tile flooring
Comments (10)You can install anything over anything you want, even tile over carpet ... but you will often be very unhappy with it. What do the installation directions for THAT BRAND say? If they say it's possible and if they give clear directions, and if the tile is in excellent condition, and if you know the floor joists are string enough for the extra load .... then yes. By the time you get the underlayment and adhesive, your floor height will be high enough that your baseboards will look strange and doors will need trimming for clearance. And the weight of the floor might exceed your joist carrying capacity. If you want to cover up old crumbling tile ... don't do it. That doesn't fix the problem and the floor will continue to deteriorate. then you have two floors to demolish instead of one....See Moreruthie51
