Englert Leaf Guard Gutters

Hi everybody, I went over the archives and found discussions of gutters guards, but not of this system that is not added to regular gutters, but one piece molded gutter and guard, kind of a cap over which the rain water runs and flows into the gutter through a narrow opening. I was about to replace all my gutters with this system when a friend warned me that in heavy rain, the water may flow over the cap and out instead of into the gutter. He also said that this system is more prone to dammage due to freeze and thaw cycles.

Does anyone have experience with this particular system?

Have experience with Leafguard, Gutterhelmet, and
gutterguard.

Have found them to all work well. What your friend says is true, but a clogged gutter will run over a LOT more. I have not found overrun to be an issue with any of them.

My preference is Gutterguard, but it is the most expensive! Has the largest profile to the gutter and can move the most water with the fewest downspouts. The covers are about 10' long segments which can be replaced individually if needed.

Gutterhelmet does a fine job but must be fitted under the second row of shingles. A plus for it is it can fit on current gutters, thus not as expensive. It also has a bit of a different look, which we did find to be a problem.

Leafguard does fine but due to the smaller profile gutter, it requires more downspouts. Without enough downspouts, it can overflow during extremely heavy rain.

Valleys can be a bit problematic with any of them, but a diverter can be added to help in that area.

Currently I have Leafguard on the front of our house, and Gutterguard on the back. The front, done some time ago, has short runs. When we did an addition and reroofed the back we decided to go with Gutterguard as there were some 70' runs where I only wanted a downspout at each end.

First installed the helmet about 9 years ago, never have cleaned a gutter since.

Have also tried just about all the other ones that clip on and don't work, and were a waste of time and money.

How do you handle the tiger stripes that come with the reverse curve gutters over time?

I wouldnt waste time or money on gutter guards as the gutters will eventually be even more difficult to clean. I have a similar water disposal system using a pop-up valve. It works very well and my plants get a lot of extra water. I installed them them as my dry-well had longsince clogged up. hello - i have gutter brush in my gutters & i am very happy w/ them - i do have to clean them out 2 times per year - spring & fall after the last of my leaves but they seem to do the job for me - i really did not want any screens or the likes of leaf guard which has a tendancy to attract bees or wasps to nest in them or anything attaching to my roof - also cost was involved -

we have liked Leaf Relief the best, cause you can get it in 10 ft long sections as well as 4 ft somethin sizes... It is aluminum....we installed it ourselves on our house we sold last year.... I bought that from a siding distributor... in that town There is a good video I saw on everythinggutter.com .. (no afflliation). just homeowner DIY mostly, here...)Those take a screw in the back too.... But "Leaf Relief" does not. For this old house bought "Sure Flo" It is cheaper from the manufacture. I just bought a whole box . UPS just delivered it. Each pc is about 4ft 6 inch... 50 pieces come in a box the web site said. only SOLD by the box.... I ordered it with a check thru the mail... came pretty fast too. we saved several dollars for each sections rsther than go thru a dealership driving 30 miles each way... Not sure if it will work on our standing seamroof we had installed over a year ago. The yahoos( a certain religious group member that dont drive) that did the work, did not quite put it up right... we did not know but the guy used us as guinea pigs... He had never installed that brand before.. My husband had to watch him closely. he wanted to put screws thru the face of the roof.... Because he did not order enough or the right starter strips...etc.... the roof mfg guy told us not to let the roofer do that.. He came in a truck, rolled out the pieces here in the driveway.... Boy was that scarey. cause the guy( roofer) had to go out and buy a big hay tarp to cover the roof overnite after the regular shingle tear off. and rain was expected...Course we had to insist too... so we might just have to end up and use "Gutterbrushes" like we had years ago at former home.. (Uh, we sold those to our brother -in law... LOL) cause the roofer did not leave the same edge that goes into the gutter... not even...DUH.... In some places Hubby had a time ,reinstalling the gutterguards that were here with the old regular shingled roof...He said he could barely get his hand in between the roof edges and gutterboard in places. Of course the Yahoo did not tell us that reinstallin the gutterguards was not part of his job... Just a saying yall jean

I have used Rainhandler and really like it. Instead of collecting the rain, it sprays the rain into your yard as a mist. There are no downspouts, no leveling, and no real planning involved in installation. You just put them up sort of where you want them, mark the holes, drill, and screw them in. Nothing collects on the Rainhandler and no maintenance is required.

I had a very bad experience with LeafGuard. The gutters never worked proberly ! Rather than fixing them, the company blamed it on my roof. Eight different contractors said that my roof was not to blame, that the gutters were improperly installed. They need to be removed and put on correctly. The summer rains found water coming over the gutters as well as between the fascia and the gutter, as well as under the shingles, making a wet deck. This has caused the fascia to rot. In the winter, the water which was always pushed up under the shingles,summer and winter, froze. The ice dams melted slowly on warmer days, putting water on the sidewalks and at night this froze, so I had ice on the walks at my exits. It was a complete nightmare.
The company just stalled and wouldn't answer most of my calls. I tried to work with them on a solution, but they just blamed the roof. When I thought that we had an agreement, they refused to put anything in writing. I gave up in dispair and disgust. I finally had to take them to small claims court where I won a judgment against them. Now, I can find a good contractor to remove and replace the gutters.
Customer service appears to be a foreign concept for them.
