Still frost - what do you plant?
Comments (2)Yes, you can plant those, as well as radishes, arugula, broccoli, cauliflower and spinach. A lot of plants are frost tolerant. The "plant after Victoria Day" rule only applies to warm weather crops. Last fall I grew radishes. They could take up to -5 C with no problems. After -5 to -8 nights, they started to look bad but still recovered each afternoon. I was very surprised at how tough they are. You can also cover them with cloches to speed up growth but this is absolutely not necessary for survival unless you have a warm weather crop in the ground....See MoreDo any of you still use those hang-up Japanese beetle traps?
Comments (6)I'm probably hexing myself here, but so far I've seen but one jb (on a hanging plant) and it flew off too fast for me to squish it - darn! This is late - nearly mid June and no infestation?? On another thread I erronously stated that they only feasted on my hibiscus and knock-outs - my error, today I remembered they also loved my boston ferns and crepe myrtles. Pause to ponder ...... last year my crepe myrtles were spared since they were 'late' - yet today they're in nearly full bloom and (shhhh, don't say it out loud - no beetles!). The hibiscus has some chewed leaves, but no beetles ... yet. Now I'm getting really freaked out .... what am I going to find come morning's light? Hope I'm not doomed ........See MoreDo you still have any colored Jades? Please show us your Pics:)
Comments (15)Norma: That's ok. Bunnygirl: Lol, that is my knee. Yes, I did notice the leaves are growing really tight too. They must love the light, and not the snow of course. Josh: Of course you know I am cheating, right? Come in about a month or two, yours should start doing a heck of lot better in the color department! Look forward to that. Thanks;-) Linda: Hello Linda? Are you getting buried anytime soon again? We had our turn last night! Some places here had Hurricane force winds which peaked at 90 miles per hour with 3 inches of snow falling an hour all night..Oh, what a miserably cold winter so far:-( The colors do certainly pick you us which leads to, Marquest: I am happy that I could do that for you. I hope all is ok. It has been a while since I have seen you around! We will always be here to lift you up with everyone's amazing plants all times of the year. Have you seen Tom's thread about flowers this time of year? Very nice! YW Marquest. Cheers everyone. i hope yours start coloring up soon. If Pug wasn't so busy, I bet she would post a few of her beauties.....See MoreMethod Daily Granite Cleaner - do you still use it?
Comments (22)My quartz isn't sealed, supposedly one of its selling points. :) It's not supposed to etch or stain. Because it's a dark gray with taupe-y mottling, it basically shows nothing. So, imagine my perplexity when I detected a faint ghost of an image of the bottom of a wine bottle when the sun fell on my peninsula. I wiped and wiped--plenty of Dawn--and it remained. It really didn't show, but it wasn't supposed to happen. Perplexing. Soon, totally unrelated, I used a Pledge wipe on some wood furniture in the living room. About to throw away the spent wipe, I noticed the packaging said you could use it on a lot of surfaces, including granite. I figure quartz should also qualify. So I ran it over all my counters. Amazing! Not only did the wine bottle ghost disappear, but my counters felt smooth and clean like never before, and the grunge doesn't return immediately. I suspect I have never really gotten them clean before this. I only do this every couple of months now with water + Dawn for the daily wipe(s)....See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
