Lowes and Home Depot to source entire kitchen?
Comments (6)my parents used Lowes. my father got a contractor's discount somehow. they have solid plywood shaker cabinets with soft close, drawers in the plinths, bought all of their appliances - GE and LG fridge. they have two dishwashers, two ranges, two sinks, one french door fridge, nicely done granite, porcelain tile floor and backsplash. The entire thing including demo, electric, plumbing, cabinets, tops, all tile work and prep was 35K in a 12x24 kitchen using the existing footprint. they were very happy with service. this is very much a local thing. Even a year out, Lowes came back no questions asked to deal with some small issues that they did not catch initially. the granite installer did a very nice job. they had something weird in the granite - like a small repair with a greenish tinge in it - they just Lowes know and the granite company was called back to fix it. the service was superb. they are older people and this was a very low hassle renovation for them, my mother says she has never cooked in such a wonderful place....See MoreStonemark Granite kitchen Countertop from Home Depot
Comments (23)I have purchased Stonemark countertops from Home Depot and love the look, color, and feel of my countertops but my experience with our area installer has been very distressing. One section of the countertop has a 1/2 inch by 1 inch chip and another section has a scratch in the middle of the island under a direct light. The imperfections either were there when the granite was pulled from the truck or were incurred during installation. When I went to sign off on the installation I noted that I was unhappy with the chip and the installer said that they would not replace the piece. They only offered to refabricate. I had him refill the chip twice with different colors and it still looks awful. I can deal with the scratch being filled as it seems minor compared to the chip. It has been 9 business days and no one at Innovative Stone will return my phone calls. I have purchased $25K of cabinets, flooring, and countertops ($6K of Stonemark) for my kitchen remodeling project from Home Depot and it all has been a fairly good experience up until this install. Innovative Stone is not even responding to calls made from my Home Depot expeditor. I am in Ohio so it might just be my local installer but beware. I realize that a chip is not covered by warranty but how can they install a countertop with such a large chip and consider it a good business practice? Does anyone know how the refabrication process works? I am assuming that they will grind the stone where the chip is and feather it back into the edge of the piece. The chip is on the front of the countertop where it meets another piece of granite. I am concerned that if I agree to have them refabricate this piece it will look odd and then two pieces of the countertop are affected....See MoreHome Depot for remodeling kitchen, good choice?
Comments (30)AZ-now I get where you're coming from. My nephew did lumber stacking (or something) for HD for a short time and it near drove him nuts. My son works at Barnes and Noble and has similar issues. We are buying frameless cabs from HD because we like the workmanship and versatility, but we aren't using their labor. We can do most of the work ourselves except for expert stuff like new wiring, maybe some plumbing, and, of course, the counters, whatever they turn out to be. Undecided on that front. That work will all be from local shops. When we were first there and the KD started with all the "specials" that ran out "soon," my husband was confused by the segue until I told him the guy was telling us about their "blue light specials." Oops, missed out on that month's deals, but guess what?! there were more deals the next month. Careful planning trumps transient specials, which is where this thread began....See MoreHome Depot,, Can you get your dream kitchen though them?
Comments (25)Hello again Peggy, Just my two cents here - Because of budget we are DIY'rs. We ended up going with Lowes on their cabinets because we liked the designer so much. We had been to others at the big box stores and were not impressed, but then we ran into some guy that had been doing it for 5 or 6 years in there kitchen dept and loved his job. He listened to what we were trying to achieve and spent oddles of time with us trying to make things work based on what I was trying to accomplish inside my cabinet doors and my space in addition to getting the "look". Had it not been for him we probably would of ended up looking into custom - we are having to manipulate and piecing things together to achieve the look we want which has required alot of patience and frustration along the way. Maybe this is normal with DIY...there were certain elements that I wanted within the cabintry that couldn't be done (feet on my island, panels on the sides of cabinets we built up to look like furniture, roll out trays on our island that they didn't carry for that piece, etc.,) Looking hindsight I would have checked into custom, I've heard it here before as igloochick mentioned that alot of times it can be cheaper! Another problem we ran into is after we ordered and installed our cabinets we went back to add crown molding (we waited on this because at the start of our renovation we bumped our wall out 2' and it gave a slanted ceiling, we wanted to install our cabinets first to see what we would need for pieces with the crown molding - in the meantime our designer from Lowes moved and we had to begin dealing with someone else in that dept which has been a nightmare - that is a story in itself - Kraftmaid says we have to deal with Lowes and go through them for our needs. I'm sure this wouldn't happen often but it is possible - our original designer has tried to help us long distance but Lowes does not want him to handle it out of state since our take backs and pick ups are here....with all that said I wish I would have checked into custom since I knew what I wanted - BUT I am happy with the way things are looking, just thinking the frustration and aggravation wouldn't be as it is AND it could have costed less. BTW, I answered you on my post (I too had a hard time finding my post??!!) Just in case you don't get there - Thank you for all your support! I would love to see pics and hear progress! Keep in touch Jen...See Moremillworkman
