Vicky, lots of things to think about, with 12" blocks,I personally would do the sashing in a smaller cut, the object of sashing is to divide and highlite the pattern, if you do a large sash, it becomes the focus, I haven't looked in my things for the block parts but there is a rectangle that you cut for the sides, I would not have anything larger then that.Will you add a border ? I am thinking 3 blocks across plus sashing, will check with my program and see if it offers any figures, hope this sort of helps Rene

Vicky...I think it would depend on how far you want it to hang on each side,or if you are going to tuck it under the pillow. Also if you are adding borders.I used to use 3 in. sashing all the time, lately I kind of like 2.5. Its a matter of preference I imagine. Ill read all the input myself a Im curious too.

A standard twin size quilt is 64 X 86 to 99. This gives you the size you want to shoot for....personally, with a smaller quilt, as this is, I wouldn't use 3" sashing....I wouldn't do more than 2, or I think it'll take over..after all, the reason for sashing is just to separate the blocks so each can be seen as a separate unit. Knowing the dimensions, you can figure how may blocks to get that approximate size, adding in borders and sashing.

Ok, we talked it over. It's going to be 20 blocks set 4X5 with a 2 inch sashing and a 7 inch border. The finished quilt will be around 72X86.

Sounds like a good design Vicky. I love the churn dash block.

I usually don't do more than a 2" sashing either, unless I want the sashing to really dominate the quilt.
