I say no, and here is why. In the home DH owned when we met he had a sink pullout in the kitchen. The wood finish was ruined on the cabinet around the knob for the pullout due to wet hands always touching the knob and water getting on the wood. We have pullouts in our master bathroom, but they are used for jewelry and other little things the kitty goes after, never opened with wet hands.

i don't use wet hands to open it, most of the time. (and besides, wldn't a knob handle most of that? My pull does)

Perhaps I use damp hands, but not drippy--and I don't touch the wood. (of course, I have a type of thermofoil, so I don't have as many worries--but I don't like water to drip on my cabinets even so)

I don't store the working sponge in there. In there I keep:
-the sink stopper (since I actually seldom run a sink full of water, this is almost never touched
-the toothbrush I use for scrubbing stuff
-the steel wool pad (which I let dry completely by the sink before stashing
-the bottle brush (which gets shaken over the sink before putting away.

I have what is probably the widest tilt-out you'd have--27". I would think in a wider sink base, you could easily end up w/ a pair of tilt-outs (sort of the way you'd end up w/ a pair of drawers). I don't feel that my hardware would create any wimpiness problems.

I *did* have to retrofit a magnetic catch on my tilt-out, because my long pull caused it to sag open slightly.

(I have also used the tilt-out tray to hold the pieces of the dishwasher rack that broke, in case I needed them again. I've set my ring in there a couple of times)

I thought it was the greatest idea in my prior house when we remodeled the kitchen. The sink was wide enough that we had 2 separate little tip out drawers made out of metal. On one side, the paint chipped and then the metal rusted pretty badly. I'm an out-of-sight-out-of-mind person, and never could remember where I kept the sponge du jour until the sponge mummified. We had finger pulls and I think the wood started to be affected, although we moved within a few years of the remodel. This kitchen, I told my KD, absolutely not!

I keep a tube of hand lotion, the sink stopper (rarely used), and extra (new) sponges. I have two side by side and mine are plastic. They can be popped off and put in the dishwasher. Even though I don't use it daily, I think it's a nifty little compartment. I don't open mine with wet hands since I don't keep anything wet in there. Occassionally, if we're having people over, I'll put my damp sponge in there but most of the time I just stick it between my faucet and the handle. It goes in the dishwasher nightly.

I'm planning on putting one in our powder room vanity for DD's hair thingies and hair brush.

I have the same as rmlanza, and treat mine as she does. In one side, I keep my eyeglass-cleaning supplies. I open that side every morning when I clean my glasses. The other side will get more use when the hummingbirds return, because I keep my bottle brush and the stopper in that side with unused sponges. I scrub my hummingbird feeders with a brush before refilling them with sugar water.
When we replaced our kitchen cab doors/drawers, we also replaced cab doors/drawers in our home's two original bathrooms. Tip-outs were added there, too. Those bathrooms belong to our college-age kids, but they use their tip-outs for toothpaste and such when they're home. I find the tip-outs to be quite handy. Oft-used items are easily stored near a sink without having to bend over to retrieve those items out from under the sink cabinet.

I had one for 15 years and loved it. I used it to hide the scrubbies and garbage disposal cap so they weren't visible. After we did a mini kitchen redo 6 months ago, I lost the the tip out tray and I really, really, really miss it. I didn't notice water or dirt being a problem.

I have to say that I have had mine in two of my kitchens and I love them. I keep sponges, dish brush, brillo pads in mine. I have used occasionally with damp/wet hands and never had the problems that others are suggesting. My present one is quite wide, in a 36" cabinet with two bins and I did put two pull handles on it, although it pulls open very easily one handed. I'm trying to be careful because I am worried about pulling it out of whack.

I too am glad to have one. I don't use it daily, but often enough to appreciate the convenience. I keep rubber gloves, a bottle brush, & a toothbrush there.

Hmmm, keeping a tube of hand cream there is a good idea too.

We've had them in the bathroom for 15 years. They provide great storage for toothpaste and floss, but I knew I didn't want to repeat the mistake in the kitchen. Water drips are definitely a problem. The tilt outs are too close to the top of the countertop to avoid it. In a kitchen with a deeper sink it might be less of a problem, but I wasn't willing to take the chance.

I lost the the tip out tray and I really, really, really miss it.

If I didn't have the tip-out tray, I'd probably install on on the inside of the sink-cabinet door, near the top. Just use the same tray, or maybe look for one of those trays designed for lower cabinets

We put one in ourselves in the old kitchen. With our new cabinets, the spring load is very positive and tends to slam. I keep a tile grout brush instead of a toothbrush that I found at Storables and an expired credit card for scraping really baked on food.

Thanks for all the input and great ideas. I think I am going to install them in all my sinks even though there are some drawbacks like hurting the cabinet finish. I like that I will have a place for all the sink stuff within easy reach.
