Black Paint Color Recommendation

We are redoing our bedroom and I am thinking of painting our current nightstands and dresser black. The color that is currently at the top of my list is BM Black Jack. Does anyone have any experience with that color or have any other recommendations for a "soft" black paint ( if that makes any sense). Thanks!

Thanks Blue! I had actually looked at that thread back then and jotted down a couple of those colors to try at the time but they just weren't black enough. I see you did also mention the Black Jack so think I may just go with it and if it looks terrible, I can always repaint. Thanks.

Joannas23 I went with Benjamin Moore Cheating Heart. I really like it. In my room on my built-ins, it is black with a charcoal tint too it, sometimes even a little blue. Not much. My room does get a lot of light. When I get back in town, I will try to get a picture of it.

Best advice I have is hire a finisher,tell them the look you are after and alow them to chose material and method to get that look. If you are unable to explain the appearance you want,find pictures (not neccessarly dining tables). 2 part water base finishes offer more toughness and gloss than were only attainable with finishes requiring special ppe and equipment a few years ago. If it was possible to preserve maple grain under black stain it would be similar to burled walnut. Burled walnut veneer or laminate on top with paint other parts would look interesting. You might talk to cabinet shops specializing in retail and office fixtures,they do more painting,laminating and veneering than stains and clear coating. Their finishes have to stand up to heavy use.

Thank you for the comments. Landscaping is a back burner item at this point. It's not something that I have to do to get the house back in livable condition. Roof repair was the first item on the list in getting it back into shape as far as livability . There was a hole in the roof so it wasn't a small leak. There was also rotting wood on the fascia and soffit. Painting of the trim, etc. is to protect the old non rotted wood from further weathering and to protect the new wood that was just installed to replace the rotting wood on the fascia and soffits. Between now and retirement, which isn't that far off, I still need to install a new HVAC system, new hot water heater, do one of the bathrooms, replace basement window that is broken, and I may need to upgrade electrical. And I need to do all that while I'm still living in my current home and refreshing a few things in and around it. It's just me trying to get all of this done. I will definitely keep everyone's suggestions on the landscaping in mind after I move back in.

Thanks sloyd. Hubby is off to BM tonight so I will have him pick up a sample of that to try. From what I can tell online that's more in the color range I am looking for. Our bedroom is BM Harbor Gray with dark gray curtains and turquoise, black and white bedding so really trying to find something that doesn't read brown, too gray and yet not be jet black. So hard to explain and probably impossible to find exactly what I see in my head so I appreciate all your suggestions. Thank you both very much for taking the time to post :)
