I got a new to-ooyy!!

Many of you know I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE may Janome 8080. It is now about 10 years old, and has sewn many a seam and quilted many a quilt. When I bought it, I did a lot of research and this machine did everything I wanted a new machine to do. It goes with me everywhere.

At this point, it has some problems. Problems that maybe can be fixed, but I'm not willing to part with the machine long enough to take it in. (My one service shop could easily have a 3+ month backlog.) Did I tell you that I LOVE this machine?

Not long ago when I was having problems, DH offered me a new machine. I declined. I love this one that much!

Tonight, I get an sale email from my favorite shop in N. Alabama... They have a Janome 8077 on sale, plus $20 off, plus free shipping (always)... It was like angels singing to me!!! The funny thing is, it's not a really expensive, high-end machine. In most terms, it's rather on the lower end of the scale.

Looking at this machine, it is almost identical to my machine (which they don't make anymore). The only added feature I can see is an on/off button so you don't have to use the pedal. I talked with DH about it, and frankly, I feel rather guilty... But his response was "Well, who's ordering it? You or me??"

So, I have a new machine coming to me!!! Hopefully before retreat so I don't have to fiddle with my temperamental one.

Ok could you PLEASE send me the info for this place? I am looking at machines now and I truly do not know which one is the best one to get.
I have looked a some an might have one I have decided on but maybe this place has the one you are talking about cheaper then the one I am looking at.
I would appreciate the information please please please, and congratulations on a new machine!!!

I say pot them up a size, and in regular potting soil, Bonnie. Bet itÂll give them a boost. And carefully remove the seed leaves and bury them all the way up to the first set of true leaves. And keep watering them with a dilute water soluble fertilizer. I also recommend putting them out all day any time itÂs up around or above 60, and even a little bit lower if the sunÂs out. The wind and sun will be good for them, and theyÂre gonna be out there on their own before too long anyway. You might keep them in or put them out in filtered sun or bright shade for a couple days right after you pot them up. Most of mine have or are just getting their second set of true leaves, so I really donÂt think youÂre that far behindÂif at all. And one other point! Last year I was looking for a couple more varieties than I had started, so I bought one in a gallon pot, and one in a small pot. Both of the store bought ones were bigger than the ones I started, and it almost looked like my tiny little plants werenÂt worth putting in the ground, but once they were planted, it wasnÂt long at all before they were ALL the same size, and without a scorecard, I really couldnÂt tell which had been which. In my experience, they love getting out into the ground and really take off once they do. And, Ian, all that for you too! I sowed my seed on March 31st, and I just potted them up from the 2' pots they were started in to 3Â½" pots. I mostly potted them up a size so I could bury them deeper to help establish a bigger root system before they go out into my clay! If you think yours look a little too pale, I recommend you start watering with a water soluble fertilizer too. I use 20/20/20Âfor EVERYTHING! For seedlings I usually use it half strength, and if they seem to like that, I make it a little bit stronger. IÂve never used Miracle Grow soilÂor Miracle Grow anything else, but if itÂs forming a crust on top when it drys, get something else. IÂve never used it either, but the Black Gold everybodyÂs talking about sounds good. I use Sunshine mix, since I can get it in bales, but itÂs available in smaller size bags too. ItÂs what everything was planted in at PaulinoÂs, and it always worked well. I use it for starting seeds, rooting cuttings, and everything else. But Digit and David both grow a LOT of stuff, and if they think Black Gold is good, thatÂs good enough for me. Ball mix is a good quality too, but I donÂt think you can usually find it in anything smaller than a bale. Just think, for a minute, about all those YUMMY home grown tomatoes! Skybird

You are correct, of course, sarchlos. The moving company has their own in-house "insurance". The original plan was simply to have the company they hired come in and do the work. This was arranged between the moving company and the previous owners. When it became apparent that would not be a good option, I went out and found some local companies to provide quotes for us. It was not easy to find a good building/restoration company, so it took months to get a quote. We gave it to them at the end of November, and they dragged their heels until the end of March, when they finally denied our request. My mother's lawyer still has $5000 held back from the previous owners, which unfortunately does not cover the cost of the quote we obtained. Our latest communication through the laywer has been to the previous owners. They are obviously not happy about having $5000 held back for 10 months, but I think it's going to become more of a pain for them from now on. They seem to have got in touch with the moving company, since the final "we won't pay more than the original quote" notice was addressed to them, with us cced. They are claiming my mother has been unreasonable, dragging things on for months, is trying to swindle upgrades to the house out of them, etc. They're actually trying to shift their own legal burden onto the previous owners by offering to cut them a cheque for the cost of the original quote. Up to this point, we've been trying to deal with the moving/insurance company to avoid any sort of legal wrangling. Our only other option all along has been to sue the previous owners for the cost of the quote, since "their" moving company insurance is refusing to pay for satisfactory repairs. In the previous thread I mentioned that my parents were recently divorced, so this is my mother's "new" house. Unfortunately, there has been so much going on in her life (and mine, with university) that the legal option would have been very difficult in the past.

Sue, I know about life getting in the way. This is my 5th (or more) attempt at this one. I really just want to use my stash and couldn't come up with something that worked. I don't have a lot of purple (unless lavender would have worked). How about just 3 giant flying geese? You can work on it as you travel. beverly

All of the posts on this thread made my head ache. I am a step mom. But before I was a step mom, I raised three children (as a single parent for many years) and I was in my ex's three children's life for seven years. (we never married but their mom saw them, maybe once a year) So, I can see both sides as a step mom AND bio mom. My son also had a step mom and I have a step mom as well. First, I would say that if dad doesn't spend much time with his first child when you were just dating, then it should have been a clue before you married him and then had another child with him. He does not sound like an interested parent at all, regardless of how involved he says he was the first time. His actions in your presence when he was BF speak volumes about his desire to parent. Second, you have a choice to build a relationship with his daughter or not. There's no need to resent HER. She didn't choose to be born, she didn't choose to have a disinterested father, she has NO choice in her living situation. I would also disagree that you should resent your DH because you KNEW he didn't spend time with her, yet you still married him. YOUR BAD!! Not his. Third, if she has a problem with you, it is most likely due to her dad (which I'm sure she wishes he paid more attention to her) paying more attention to YOU and now the new baby. It's normal in an intact family when a new baby comes along that the older child might feel jealous. Befriending her and letting her "help" with the baby might make her feel a part of the family. If she is following you, she sounds interested. One thing that I have not seen addressed here (and I'm fairly new to this forum) is feelings toward the child based on the other parent. My SD looks & acts like her mom, which kinda makes it a little harder to get along sometimes. That is something you have to acknowledge if it's a problem and then work on separating it mentally. I do realize it shouldn't have anything to do with it and I do remind myself all the time that she's not a mini version of her mom. She acts like her mom because children model after their parents. And I guess if you dislike the other parent and that child reminds you (or your spouse) of the other parent, it can cause problems. And lastly, we all think our new babies are "perfect" and in a way, they are. That is, until we screw them up with our baggage and issues. If your child grows up with a mom that can resent a five year old for existing, then that WILL affect him. That is his sister whether you like it or not. He will resent you if you damage that relationship. Your husband may or may not care about his relationship with his daughter but if he does care and you are the reason she gets out of his life, HE may resent you too.

Nanny nanny boo boo indeed! Congrats! New machines are so fun! What a nice husband...

I was talking to my grandmother on the phone and she said that HSN is now selling Janome, but she had never heard of the brand before... it was fun to hear her try to pronounce it!

Enjoy your new baby.... it might be fun to keep the old one and get it fixed up as a spare or travel machine, after the new one arrives of course :o)

Oh, I'm definitely keeping the older one. I will be able to send it out for repair now, without worry about how long they keep it.

Robbi~I am just hoping it gets here before Retreat! Even looked at the map to see if it was on Beverly's way so she could pick it up for me... Unfortunately, she heads in a different direction :( So I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

Bev, it's Ken's Sewing Center in Muscle Shoals. It's way up in the northwest corner of Alabama. About 1 1/2 hrs NW from Cullman.

Jennifer, Take Beverly up on her offer!!!! You want to bring that machine to retreat and this way, you know it'll happen!!! I love new toys.....and they don't have to be top of the line to make me happy. I'm so happy for you!!

I know how you feel about the Janome 8080. I have one that I purchased from Sears. It's the best machine. I have it serviced annually and haven't had a minute's trouble. It's a keeper in my collection.

byrdseay~ I got mine at Sears toO! I thought mine must have been a 1 of a kind because I've never heard of anyone else owning one too!

I've never had any problems with it until now... and I think it's only been serviced once, and that was in the last few years.

This will definitely stay in the arsenal, so to speak.

Congratulations! I'm starting to think about a new machine, too, and the shop in town closest to me sells Janomes, so I'll definitely check them out.

I love going to Ken's Sewing Center. It's only about 20 miles from where I live. They have a variety of machines, vaccums, notions and threads.

Wow! I know how much you love that machine of yours! You really are lucky to find a replacement. I met the people at Ken's from Ala. at a quilt show and they are very nice!

I am so happy for you, Jennifer...and just in time for retreat!
