Here are some that I have - 1st the one like zipdee's haven't ever finished stripping it ...sigh ! :

this one is in our foyer, it was in a barn and in many pieces . I stripped it and glued it back together...

this one is in the DR:

I haven't got a pic of the one in the MBR. Here is the one in the kitchen....also not finished stripping...I tell myself I like the rustic look :)

Charle7, the mirrors do make it look like a dark hole over your FP. I don't agree that you need to remove the mirror already attached to your wall, but I do think the framed mirrors should come down and that you need to add a lot of light colored accessories to that side of the room. I'd put your best and biggest piece in the middle (you could also stick something interesting inside to make it taller and more colorful), and the rest of your ideas sound great. Maybe a white framed mirror could work if you put something large in front of it - you need to get rid of that tunnel look and dark reflection. You'll also need to bring down some of the lighter colors to the hearth, and possibly bring some of the darker colors over the the TV area (mixed with light). How about some blues accents to go with your furniture? More blue in the hearth rug and around the room would look great I think. Would go nicely with your framed needlework, too. Could you try moving some of your stuff around and snapping another pic for us to look at? I think you have a lot you can already work with.

I hope this isn't heresy. To me, it's the three photos that throw everything off - in each of the shown arrangements. I'm a little torn on using two rounds, although staggered at different heights offset by the taller candles seems to mitigate that somewhat. I'd keep the clock in the middle and find something with bulk - a piece of crockery or a preserving jar or pottery piece to companion with the metal can. To my eye, you don't need much else. I think I'm looking for something bright too - like branches with orange or red berries (bittersweet or pyracantha or...) rather than the grass plumes.

Pbris, We just tore out two bathrooms that had wooden floors. Couldn't believe the rot underneath the shower. We didn't put those floors in there, previous owners did. Lesson learned. Our bathroom is upstairs. While we reinforced the structure of our house, tile wasn't a great option because of the weight. Plus there isn't heat or air up there so marmoleum will feel better to feet in the winter. sue, are you my Ebay competition? We'll have to secretly agree to take turns and bring the prices down for both of us. :+) Bulldogs. Once you have one, you'll never go back. We're on our third. Isabelle is ball obsessed. She steel's tools and brooms too. Never had more than one at a time though. They are attention seekers. Self absorbed clowns with their own agenda. Part pig, hippo and dog. And sometimes goat.

Beautiful pictures ladies! Love how you've decorated your mantels too. I'm on the look out for a mantel clock for the one in the living room.

Jane .. we have an old coal metal insert for one of the fire places. It's looks like you have one too. Ours are set up so they are back to back, so two share a chimney, then the other two share one. Two were coal, then on the other side of the house two were set up for wood .. deeper and larger fire boxes.

Yes ours has the same "summer cover" that Jane has but it is still the original black. They weigh a ton. We found ours in the little house wrapped in a towel. They were supposed to be donated during the WW II for the war effort to make ammunition...thank goodness it was hidden. There are many missing in our area though.

Our LR fp backs up to the DR and they share the same original chimney with gas /coal Victorian inserts. The kitchen and MBR share the same chase that we had installed so they would be vented gas fp's. Both are gas/coal Victorian inserts too. We get a lot of nice heat from all 4 of them in the winter. The foyer is not usable...show only.

The mantle clock was my Grandfather's. It still works but DH hates to hear it so it is not on at the moment.

I need Jane to come and decorate !! WOW that is so beautiful !!!!

Well, you told me about your mantle and that you had a fireplace, but you never said anything about multiple fireplaces throughout your house!
