Okay, I sold my bag and have a report for you. Got $27.87 per gram for 14k, about $863.97 per troy ounce. I'm very pleased. The place was busy with folks selling stuff. I called in advance and got pricing before I went. I figure what I purchased the old pieces for back in the 80s and 90s, my gold appreciated over 100%. I consider what I sold "scrap" due to twisted chains, dented hoop earrings, out of date designs, etc. Now I'll wait until gold is way down again before I "stock up" again, LOL. If you are selling a wedding band, it's going to be between 3-10 grams worth - so appx $84 - $278 at this place at today's price.

I have a jeweler that I have used for 6 or 7 years. They are great. I trust them. I recently inherited some jewelry -- especially some gold chains, etc. I took them over to my jeweler and I received a verbal value. If anything had been very valuable, I would have obtained a written appraisal for that piece. My jeweler brought out the scales, and weighed each piece, then gave me the weight and what the piece would be worth if purchased new. Some of the pieces just had scrap value because of their condition. Others were fine to wear. Some of the pieces were worth nothing. This jeweler will take pieces on consignment to sell. I have actually purchased one or two, and would certainly not hesitate to leave some there, if I wanted to sell anything. If I decide to sell off the gold, I would probably sell it there, or use it towards something that I wanted for myself. I have several pieces of "estate jewelry" that I or my husband have purchased over the years. They are some of my favorites. There are many of us out there who would treasure the beautiful workmanship of the older pieces. Oh, my jeweler is not one of those in the malls. This is a family run store that has about 4 locations. They are very honest, and I love to deal with them. I started using them because when we moved to the area, they donated to my daughter's high school auction, and I thought I would try them first for what I needed, as they have a store nearby. I haven't been disappointed. You could also take the pieces to a pawn shop to sell-- or at least get a price. I have a couple of beautiful pieces that have been purchased at pawn shops. I don't go to the ones in sleazy areas, but more upscale areas. They will purchase your pieces outright to sell-- not just for scrap. Good luck. I wish we could see the pieces.

So glad to see you're under contract TR, hopefully closing will go smoothly and you'll have the relief that not only did the house sell, but to someone so appreciative of it. When we were looking for a house and viewed the one we purchased, the original owners were here, an elderly couple who bought it when the subdivision was just built. It was '09 and a buyer's market mostly (Texas didn't have the huge highs and lows other regions did but still, this was a nice house that had been on the market for 6 months or so). They were selling to move into assisted care living as the elderly gentlemen had several medical problems, they showed us around the place, introduced us to 'Christine' the water fountain out back that "was staying", my hub liked them as much as the house, we made an offer very close to asking and they accepted. We talked on the phone several times, came over twice, for inspection and then to hash out when they were moving (they didn't want to leave before closing), other details of the house they wanted us to know, everything very friendly. The Mrs. had given me her e-mail address so we could stay in touch, I did sent her an email after we'd gotten moved in, no reply, I called her cell, no call back. Then problems with the house started occurring (rapidly), the sanitary line needed replacing, doors started sticking and the foundation needed levelling, the whole back fence line that looked perfectly fine until you put your hand on it and it bent backwards needed replacing, the first two years here were an endless series of expensive things that had to be done. We bought it as a forever house and it likely will be, we've sunk so much money into it it probably has to be. lol I'm getting ready to paint my computer room a rosy coral, nothing bad has happened in maybe a year so I feel like celebrating. :)

We are currently under contract for full asking price (all cash) after 4 days of showings and two offers, so I (smugly) feel qualified to answer this question. This is our third time selling and the second time with a quick sell in a buyer's market. Here's what we did: Interviewed three real estate agents. They all came up with the same selling price, so we chose a flat fee agency and are saving $12,000 in commissions. This agent was very good, took professional pictures, wrote the listing, posted to MLS, dealt with contract negotiations, the whole shebang minus open houses which we didn't want anyway. Super happy with this company. I did research the agent on Realtor.com before choosing him. Took our agent's advice on pricing. We were not in a hurry to sell, looked at the comps, and agreed that our agent had us solidly in the middle of what we could reasonably expect to sell our house for. Through the 9 years we have owned the house, we have updated everything, including having our very small Florida yard professionally landscaped. Fixed everything that was broken Cleaned everything Repainted where we couldn't clean the walls or trim adequately Decluttered, put a bunch of stuff in storage Staged the house nicely Put everything personal away for showings The only things on counters were decorative Bowl of green apples on kitchen counter for a pop of color against the granite Hung fresh white towels that we don't use in the bathrooms Used tasteful artificial flower arrangements in most rooms Fresh mulch in garden beds Refreshed flowers in front borders Trimmed hedges and trees Turned on all of the lights before showings House was spotless for showings (we don't normally live this way, but it's worth it to get top dollar for our house and not prolong the painful selling process) Turned on our Sonos to soft jazz music Got ourselves, our cats, and the litter box out of the house for showings Here's what we didn't do: Neutralize all of the colors in the house. We have earthy tones of blue, green, rust, and aqua in our house, but everything is not beige, white, or gray.. Get rid of curtains (I posted several months ago about this, ultimately decided to keep them) Hire a professional stager Set the table with plates Scent the house with anything We met our buyers on Saturday for the home inspection and asked them what made them want the house. They said: Loved the landscaping Looked professionally staged Clean and inviting Didn't need to do anything to the house Looked well taken care of We are super happy with our experience selling this time, love our buyers, and are looking forward to the May 8 closing!
