Exactly! That's why this is our pot filler. Close to the cooktop and perfectly user friendly! I'd like to say we planned it, but didn't exactly, DH discovered how well it worked shortly after remodeling was done and he needed to fill a large pot. If you can plan your prep sink close to your cooktop, problem solved.

I liked the way they looked too~ so had one installed in our new kitchen(new construction) but I have only used it a handful of times in the last year and a half. I still like the way it looks though!

I vetoed it in our remodel. Husband liked how they looked, but I just didn't see the need. Our faucet has a pull out spout that reaches the pot on the counter. Our cooktop is on an island with no plumbing, so we would have had to carry it to the cooktop anyway.

If you can plumb it by your stove, then go for it if you want it.

If you are on a well or have old pipes in your house, you should not install a pot filler. The water in a pot filler sits in the pipes between uses. In the case of well water which is not chlorinated, bacteria can form. Lead from old pipes is also a problem. The EPA suggests letting tap water run for a few moments prior to use if you are on a well or have old pipes, and this is not possible with a pot filler. I do like the way they look though!

I can understand your question completely: I sounded just like you when the pot filler question came up.

Although we have an island I didn't want a prep sink knowing that the main sink wouldn't be far from the range. So, with that and because our kitchen was coming down to the studs, it was easy to just throw one in. I can't tell you how happy we are to have it..I use it all the time. Turned out to be that one thing in all the many decisions that I didn't spend a lot of time on that makes me smile.

btw, carrying the water back to the sink to empty the pot just doesn't seem to matter even though your point is right on.

I enjoy mine. If I want to dispose of the water that has been in the pipes, I usually fill a container and use that water to water the plants.

It also serves the purpose of "kitchen jewelry".

I think beekeeper is right re: kitchen jewelry. If you love it, why not, they are useful. Your point that you have to cart the water to a sink to pour it out is of course correct too. I guess you just have to consider whether you'll be more like Sweetpea (loves it and uses it all the time) or Marciab (loves it but almost never uses it).

I opted for a variant, blatantly copying from another GW kitchen here. We have a prep sink very close to our cooktop with a Kohler Karbon faucet - the faucet reaches over to the cooktop and can function as a pot piller, and the sink is right there to drain my pasta etc.

And of course, remember that you don't have a drain beneath it if it drips or the pot overfills. Also, be sure you have access to the plumbing from the other side of the wall in case you have issues...you don't want to have to destroy your backsplash if you need to get to the plumbing.

Check your Code as well, in some municipalities they aren't allowed if they're installed in the wall...we were told Code wouldn't allow it where we live when we very briefly considered one.

sochi, what a wonderful potfiller! and a most perfect spot for it. It makes me think I need to walk miles for water after seeing your convenient treasure. I love your counter tops too. Really beautiful!

benjayva, you can buy an extra long hose for your regular sink faucet. I mentioned this last year and someone did it and loved it. The faucet you have can be equipped with a longer hose, whether it's a pull-down, pull-out or sidespray.

Also, if you equip your kitchen with a second source of water (like a filtered water tap) you can have an easier time getting top up water to your cooking pot without disturbing someone's activity at the sink.

Also, if you have a container of drinking water handy, it can do the job of providing top up water, without turning on a tap. Same principle as those sponges that hold soap in the handle, instead of having a soap dispenser.

pro/cons on pot fillers at cooktops.
pro: we just like the way they look
con: you do have to carry heavy pots back to the sink to empty, anyway
con: all spouts drip at least one drop. Any spout, anywhere, in any case, no matter how expensive.
con: admiring guests have been known to try out your potfiller without concern for how much water they put where. They don't go get a pot first.

I must say I wasn't really overly excited about this redo.... my DH LOVES to redo...walls out, walls in new stuff etc. It's just the two of us now so not a lot of cooking going on. But, I must admit after lurking on this site and picking out new stuff I am really stoked !!!! I WANT to cook more and can't wait for my new kitchen. Thanks to all of you. lulaja1 - my counter is quartzite bianca, also know as Luce di Luna. It also goes by several other names. It is a natural stone, not a quartz composite countertop like Caesarstone or Cambria. We've only been back in our house and using the kitchen for about a month, but so far it is pretty bullet-proof, no staining, no etching. I expect I will have to seal it every year or two, but so far no issues at all.

lulaja 1 - Thanks, my counter is also quartzite, Verde Lichen, also a natural stone. I've never seen it anywhere else. I've been told that it is harder than granite. I love the subtle veining, almost looks like a marble. I've had it installed since last summer and have had no staining, etching etc.
