The only grandparent I have that’s still alive is my dad’s mother but I don’t have any grandparents. I’m 22 years old. My mother’s father was coward who killed himself when my mom was 3. And she was forced to grow up without her father. And her mother did a horrible job raising her. But my mother is a wonderful woman. She never left me or my siblings in times of need and raised us to be mature responsible adults. And she is a hard worker. Her mother was there for a little of our life and abandoned us when I was really young. Not even 10...that had to be hard for my mom to fill the void. My father’s side was great until my aunt was born. His father died when I was 2, my brother was 6, and when my sister was 8. My dad was only 27 at the time, but he is a great man. He worked hard for decades to provide for 3 kids, and a wife. He was never afraid to be the bad guy if that’s what it took to teach us what we needed to know. And he never stops showing us love when we need him. I’ve had the best parents I could’ve ever had or asked for. But my father’s mother is the worst. She was never there for me or my brother and never even met my sister. I invited her to my graduation party (only because mom told me to) she said she was gonna come and she lied. Not even a congratulations card. I finally told her I was done. I gave her another chance after her mother died but I didn’t even get a half a try. She never called, never asked if I was doing alright in this time of the coronavirus. So I finally deleted her number. she doesn’t deserve to be part of the life a man who’s engaged and has a double bachelor’s. Or a man who is working on a music career. Sometimes I wish I could spit in her face. She is not grandmother of mine, or my siblings. And never told her own son that she was proud of him. That has to hurt my father to the core, maybe that’s partially why he’s such a hard worker, because his efforts were never enough. Not to his own mother anyway.

Marion Mainwaring completed The Buccaneers, and there was a miniseries with Carla Gugino and Mira Sorvino, which has a completely different ending, and adds things I don't think were intended in the book (eg one of the characters is a homosexual caught in a compromising situation). I was incurably romantic in my early 20s and read it numerous times, but I suspect it would be too sappy for me now. Read P&P, watched the miniseries, watched the movie, now what's left for me but to read 2 essays on Jane Austen I just found at the library. I read Down and Out in Paris and London a few weeks ago, and while I found the part in Paris sparkling and interesting, the part in London was incredibly repetitive, IMO, and I couldn't see the point of it. Couldn't he go to his family's house while waiting for the job to start?

Put down the Kim Edwards book of short stories. They just weren't reading well and when it takes four or more days for me to finish a book, that's a sign of problems for the book (i.e. I don't like it). So now on to "Moral Disorder" by Margaret Atwood which will be a quick read. I am loving it so far. Going to a Witches' Brew tea party this afternoon. I have my hat ready and will be dressed in black. Anyone care to come with me?

annpanagain, re your earlier comments on library closures, it turned out that the village we moved to in July lost its local library in April, part of cutbacks that saw 20% of libraries in the county council closed. There is a monthly mobile library service to the village. I am probably fortunate in that the county town is only 3 miles away and the central library there, readily accessible as I drive, is well stocked. After joining I came away with 3 books. The first, which I have already finished, was by a new author to me - Giles Kristian, with Raven Blood Eye, the first of a trilogy about Vikings' expansions into England. The other 2 were crime novels - 4th of July by James Patterson, a women's murder club offering; and a gentler The Coniston Case by Rebecca Tope, the third in her Lake District trilogy. I am looking forward to making good use of this library facility and saving myself a fortune. I have read over 50 books already this year and do not even want to think how much I have spent.

The ONLY episode that I watched out of this entire season of The Bachelor was tonight's finale episode. So, I didn't have any preconceived ideas of either woman.

The opinion I have now of the rejected bachelorette is that she certainly doesn't take defeat gracefully... I didn't think she displayed much class at all, with her attempt to bash the reputation of the one he chose. It would have been much more mature of her to have held her head high and said, quietly and without emotion, that she wished him well and hoped that he didn't live to regret his decision.

What we saw was bad enough, and I got the impression that the producers edited out a bunch more.

I, too think Mr Bachelor will soon tire of his "monkey". This gal seemed phoney through the whole series. Why, oh why do I watch this stuff!!! Dottie

The "monkey" is constantly "on".... does she think she's up for an award or what? I'll be so glad when reality hits him!

He picked Shane! Pretty girl, very sweet but TOO infantile. Her voice irked me and I truly believe he was blinded by her being so cute, young, and one heck of an actress! She truly seemed to be "on" all the time. I believe her dad expressed that he thought she was doing this to get publicity and be seen. I think he's right. It's a matter of time before he wakes up. She's high maintenance so it's a good thing she has her daddy.

I felt from the beginning that he was going to choose her at the end & for once I was right. I hope he wakes up to his decision before it's too late. Not the right choice for him in a lot of ways.

When it became appearant he was going to choose Shayne, I kind of glossed over his proposal to her. I saw a rerun of it this morning on the View, and to me it is appearant she is acting (badly) like Orie said, Shayne is so infantile. Dottie

I couldn't believe the final two were the two they were! It will be interesting to see if they do get married. Wonder what his parents thought!

His brother wasn't too impressed by her (first impressions count, if you ask me). She just sounded so stinking sugary all the time that I believe he was bamboozled! Can't wait!
