Been there, done that, hated it. Maybe someday they'll make phones that are water-proof. That's one reason I got one of those little holster-thingies that attach to my belt loop. So I CAN'T forget and leave my phone in my pocket and then throw it in the laundry.

Several posters here have reported success with reviving their 'washed' cell phone. They take the battery out and put everything in a bag of rice.

Perhaps you should just make it a habit to always check pockets before tossing any clothing item into the washing machine...

I have saved one with the rice. Take out the battery and put the phone in a bag of white rice for about 4-5 days. Do not try to turn it on for a couple of days.

the rice thingy works but you've got to get to it quickly...if you haven't done it by now your phone is probably a goner...

Maybe you can pick one up on ebay fairly cheap...

DH purchased the leather case with a belt clip for both of ours. We've only lost one. We got soaked in a heavy rain storm on our motorcycles. I keep a zipper bag in my saddlebag just in case.

They do already.

They also make ones resistant to salt mist.

You can also get an otterbox for your devices if you need to take them into a pool for whatever reason.

There is also a way to waterproof any phone by filling it with a silicone filler. The phone will still work but you will void your warranty and make any future repairs impossible. There are also solar powered cell phones that eliminate the problems of wet batteries their connections.

at least yours went thru washing maching mine went by way of toilet. Not kidding, and it was within three hours of just buying it. Not fun explaining that to the store.

I have a not so funny one. Our employee got drunk one night and walked home from the bar. Instead of taking a left turn to go to his home he made a right turn and was sooo drunk he walked into a runoff pond that was quite full and home to alligators. (hope drunk could you be) When he finally arrived home in his drunken stupor he put his phone in the microwave to dry it out. I advanced him $75 to purchase a new phone the next day.

Would you believe?? I took the phone to Radio Shack the following day they turned it on and it works!!! He said they were making them much better today!! I purchased the leather case to keep it in and I promise I will never put it in my pocket ever again!!!!!!

The problem mostly is not with cleanliness related to the phones ...

... but to the language of the users!

Not liking clumped facial tissue paper residue found in pockets after washing, and other things, I usually check every pocket prior to dumpng the garments into the washer.

Some folks told here a few years ago about having a computer store and having many soaked in a flood ...

... and that, after letting them dry thoroughly for a week or so - they worked (not sure whether that was all of them).
