unsticking painted shut old metal casement windows

Ok - last one today...

The house is loaded with windows. Every wall is mostly windows. I know the general consensus will probably be to replace them all - but that is not in the cards right now. Actually it's what DW loves the most about this house so they may never go. Plus the house is pretty well insulated & the west wall is built into a hill so we'll see how much they affect the heating/cooling. We are in Texas so have pretty mild winters.

From what we can tell, all of them have been painted shut from the outside - interior is clean. Also due to the age of the house - I'm guessing somewhere in the layers of old paint there is at least one lead coat. What would you suggest to get these back to operable?

Would a heat gun work?
