Best refrigerators: Kenmore Pro / Electrolux Icon???

Posting here and also appliance forum. What refrigerators are you most happy with? I was seriously thinking commercial but then got some good advice, DON"T DO IT! Now I am wondering if any of you have experience with the Kenmore Pro 48 inch or the Electrolux Icon 42 inch. I definitely need it to be at least 42 inches and prefer 48. I do not want water on the outside of door and only want side by side. Hate bottom freezers. If no experience with these what do you like? TIA

Hi, I have experience with the Electrolux Icon 36". We've had it for 3 years and I love it. I would definitely get it again. And I agree...I like this side by side much better than either our old bottom-mount freezer or older top-mount. The space is well configured in the Electrolux and we've had not problems with it.

I realize this isn't exactly what you're looking for but thought it might be helpful to have feedback on the brand.

We have the Kenmore Pro ones (like these) which I think are made by Frigidaire. (?) We've only had them installed for 2 months, but before that they sat for 2 years in our dirty garage -- long story -- so we were a little worried about how they would work after sitting for all that time but bottom line, no problems, and we're thrilled with them. For the price they can't be beat. There are two slightly odd things about them however. One is that there's no meat drawer, which I was used to in our other fridge and I do miss that. There are two HUGE drawers which I love having, but we fill one with fruits and the other with veggies, so then I just have meat on one the shelf above the drawers, which is okay but I would rather have a drawer for it. The second odd thing is that the shelf structure above the drawers are actually attached to the drawers themselves and they don't seem to come off for cleaning. The glass itself lifts out, but the surrounding shelf frame doesn't detach from the drawer (at least that we could figure out!) which makes it awkward for cleaning as you can't just turn it upside down into your sink and dump out fallen particles. Those are very minor inconveniences for the space and convenience (especially the freezer space which is incredible), and overall I love these appliances and I would get them again in a heartbeat.

Hello, The igniters are still the same, at least to my knowledge and I service several of these units a month. One common issue in my area with these units is the safety fuse on the back. Depending on your elevation this may or may not be an issue. I'm at 6,000 feet above sea level and this is a very common issue where I live. During the self clean cycle the oven heats up beyond cooking temperatures. If the oven over heats, the fuse will trip. This happens here because the fan spins to fast, several things can be implemented to help, it's not fixed as of yet. Thinking about this oven now I also know that they have a control board issue. The number segments will disappear or go blank all together. They have however came out with a revised control for that issue and altogether changed the board depending on the model serial break. Just spoke with the sales person at Sears who told me the KE Oven/MV combo #48903 is new and just came into the showroom. We selected a KE 36" induction cooktop, KE #2490 which is an 2009 model (with good reviews) as opposed to other 36" CT, KE # 4292 (2010 model) with poor reviews. Just ordered the matching KE Warming Drawer Model #49313 for $549 Now we are deciding on a DW, either a Kitchen Aid (KUDE70FX) $1297, or KW Model #13973 $1317. I believe the KA has really good reviews from AJ Madison and Consumer Reports. The only other model we considered was a Meile Diamante for about $1349. We are probably going to panel the DW, so looks might not be a factor at this time. Before I commit to a delivery date, does anyone have any feedback ? The savings on these appliances are enough to allow for the purchase of a upgraded Signature Cabinets line and custom Banquet/Table.

Check the appliances forum.

My take is that all the common freestanding refrigerators suck. I've seen a lot of bad stuff about all of them. There seems to be good feeling about Lieber and perhaps FP.

It was my hardest choice. I went with JennAir without a good feeling about it.

I have a Kenmore Elite-not Pro-but it's wonderful! I think Kenmore is great-our Kenmore dishwasher is amazing!

We have had the 36" side by side Kenmore Pro for almost a year and we really like it.

It maintains and even temp, looks good, and runs quiet. I like that it beeps if the door is left open. The stainless finish is virtually smudge proof which is a huge deal for me. Our first stainless fridge required constant polishing.

The freezer is a bit small, but the larger model would take care of that issue.

KitchenAid makes good fridges - I've had mine for over 5 years now - works great and no problems. KAs have good warranties. My previous Whirlpool is still going strong in the garage - over 26 years old.

I've had a Kenmore free standing for 19 years. Holding my breath everyday! LOL I've always had wonderful luck with Kenmore appliances, i.e., refrigerators, washers and dryers. Wouldn't buy anything else unless style and price are a huge factor.
