Majic Jack Plus phone service

Do any of you have this?
I ordered it and it came the other day.

We thought we had it all hooked up properly and when I make long distance calls they go through all right. However the number that is displayed on their identi call is not the number that they assigned me. It is another number which appears that imay be Majic Jack's number in Florida. It isn't even the same exchange number. When my friends dial that number, I recieve the call but if they dial the number I was assigned, it does not go through.

There is a 30 day trial period before they access my credit card for the paymenjt. I'm wondering if perhaps the number I was assigned will not show up for that 30 day period. Do any of you know?

I'm mainly interested in it in order to save long distance charges.

Did you contact them? If this is sold thru Radio Shack, did you contact them?

So far I did not find a way to contact them directly. I did not buy it from Radio Shack. I ordered it on line.

I can't advise on Vonage or Magic Jack. I have used AT&T/Cingular for about 15 years. I currently have an AT&T Go Phone (pay-as-you-go) that I am very satisifed with. I have had this particular phone for about 4 years. It has voice mail, call waiting and caller ID. Also has texting available. I had that feature disabled since the only texts we received were marketing messages. I pay in advance $100 per year (under $9.00/month) so I don't have to worry about minutes expiring for a full year. With the plan I have, usage is $1.00 per day of use (no charge if no calls that day) plus 10 cents per minute. Since we only use it for emergencies or when traveling, this works very well for us. Almost too well since we are starting to max out on credits after 4 years. They also have a straight 25 cents per minute plan which would cost about $180/year ($15/month). Terri

The only thing I've heard about Magic Jack is that their support is pretty bad. If you get the thing up and running, it works fine. Remember that you need to have a computer up and running for Magic Jack to work. Computer goes down, no phone. There's another service like Vonage that supposed to be pretty good. Can't think of the name, something with an O. Lots of people are ditching land lines. Depends on your calling habits. Most telephone companies offer a very basic, inexpensive plan if you want to have a backup. Generally, they don't advertise them you have to ask and you'll only get a few local calls per month.

I can think of a few easy ways to save money on telephone services. You can save money by owning rather than renting your telephone handsets, both for landline and mobile services. Landline telephones are cheap and rarely go wrong. Mobiles don't need to be changed every year either. Also, many landlines have extra services you pay for monthly. Â£3.99 a month for an answerphone service looks small, but it's almost Â£50 a year. You could buy an answerphone for much less and keep it for years. Anyone who has extra services on their telephone line should look at their yearly costs and think about how much they use these services. I believe a lot of people are paying for services they never actually use.

I bought mine at Walmart...and love it! I can call local and long distance and talk to my heart's content for only $29.95 a YEAR! Several of my friends have bought one and love theirs also.

I think maybe we are getting it straightened out. I did finally get through to them and they certainly have tried everythihng. Apparently someplace some one mispelled my name and for some reason someone got the credit card mixed up. they had 2 different names and 2 different credit card numbers and codes. A real mess. They have cancelled everything and started over fresh to register. They'll send me an email to-morrow and hopefully it will be all straightened out. From the few calls I did make on it, l was well pleased so think it is good to be determined.

I've wondered about something like this, whether it was worth the hassle or not. I make few long distance calls so I just use the cell for those. But an extra number could be convenient for certain things. I take it you have to register a credit card or can you do an online payment or something?

It appears that it is going to be fine. The problem I had was that there was a wrong spelling of my surname. We eventually got it working by registering with the wrong spelling. Yes, you do have to give credit card info and they do not accept American Express. It will save me about $600. a year unless I get another land line and even then I will save, as I do have to make quite a few long distance calls.

If there hadn't been a problem, the registration was very simple and leads you through all the way.
