It sounds like he needs to go to puppy training school again, and they need to go with him - he's just being a normal puppy - they need to learn to deal with his normal behavior.

One or both of them attended training classes with him. The behaviors I've mentioned are just some of what he does. He demands constant attention which is exhausting them. I know that no 2 dogs are the same but the 1st Silkie was nothing like this, which is why they got another one. I would think that at 1 1/2 yrs some of the "normal puppy behavior" would subside and he would get somewhat calmer. When he was younger my DS would say that he's all puppy, all the time. At 1 1/2 yrs he still acts like he's he's all puppy, all the time, with no let up.

what about getting another dog to keep him company and play with him? Sounds to me like they are giving him plenty of exercise.

I will add that I have a one-yr. old Chi. - she's been in the family since August and she demands a lot of attention, too. She wants to be held a LOT. She wants someone to throw her rope toy constantly, forever, it seems.

I talked to our Vet. and he said that when she has worn us out and still wants to play, take her for a long walk, which should wear her out.

Before long, Coco (the pup) began to associate our change in attitude towards her as meaning 'oh, goody - we are going for a walk'. Now, she stops playing and starts jumping up and down, ready for her walk.

I walk her 3/4 mile each of 4/5 times a day. By the end of the day, she just wants to sleep.

If he is demanding constant attention, it's because he is receiving it. If he barks and receives attention, he is being rewarded for it. He needs to learn what good behaviour is by being rewarded only when he behaves correctly. If he is jumping on people while on the sofa then he should not be allowed on the sofa unless he is invited and behaves correctly.
He may need more exercise than he is receiving. I'd try tiring him out more.

I think Sleeperblues may have a good idea. Add another high energy dog to the family and hopefully they will tire each other out.

Georgy is a year and a half now and she sometimes acts like this, too. When she does, I give her the Caesar sssshhh sound and grab her on both sides. I stroke her gently while saying calm down very softly. This works for her. Then I tell her I don't want to play right now and she should go play by herself and she does. She'll toss her stuffed animal around and shake it and I just sit and laugh at her. You do have to be firm and just not play with him. Also, has he been fixed? He shouldn't be humping people if he has. In any event, that is a definite no and he should be put in his crate or his room every time he does this until he gets the message that that is not acceptable.

Some dogs are "puppy" until well over 2 years of age. Much depends on the breed. Some are energetic over their life and if they're not properly trained will become more aggressive to get what it wants.

I more inclined to think you just have a very energetic dog. Doesn't sound like this is a laid back "lap dog" type of breed. Some descriptions:

Temperament

They are full of energy and need a good amount of exercise in order to be calm.

Good with children so long as the dog does not have a meek owner who fails to give him the discipline and structure all dogs instinctually need. Training these dogs is very straight- forward because it is very eager to learn. Do not allow this little dog to developed Small Dog Syndrome, human induced behaviors where the dog believes he is pack leader to humans. When a Silky believes they are the boss, their temperament changes, as they try to control everyone and every thing around them. They may become demanding, willful, protective and may begin to bark a lot.

The Silky Terrier wants to be your best buddy. He is a friendly, affectionate, scrappy little guy who does not like to be ignored. They do not do well if left alone for hours on end. They want to be with you! And this can be easy to do because they are very portable and adaptable. Silky Terriers have a high activity level and like to play fetch and go for daily walks. They do best with a fenced-in yard to tear around in. They are intelligent, but can be a bit stubborn and difficult to train. Housetraining can be especially challenging. They are alert and make extremely good watch dogs, as they usually only bark for a reason. They will raise the alarm whenever someone approaches your property. They can be dog aggressive and they have no idea how small they are. They do not do well in a home with young children because even though Silky Terriers think that they are tough, they are really quite fragile and could easily be hurt by a well-meaning toddler. In short, if you have lots of attention to give, the Silky Terrier will have lots of love to give you back! These are joyful, cuddly, little dogs.

More training classes would do wonders.

we had the same thing.We lost our precipous jack russell,I still cry about her When Im alone and see her picture,or just think of her,We got a new one shes over a year,shes out of control,bites,barks constant,just a stupid little dog.I dont know what to do.

He sounds like a puppy who has been getting his way for too long. I highly recommending increasing his exercise time and make sure that he is truly worn out.

You also need to be firm and ignore him when necessary. He's learned so far which of "your buttons" he can push to get a response. Be as consistent as possible when training him. Good luck

Ask to vet to check out the dog especially where it was neutered. Sometimes a dog is neutered too early or a slight mistake was made and something grows back.

More training classes would do wonders.
