They installed this morning, and we couldn't be happier. I even came home from work for it. We even liked it unoiled, but we broke down and oiled since I wanted to see the gorgeous veining. The colors remind me of sea shells...go figure.

We had them drill 2 holes (had to anyway), but of the same size for the faucet and soap dispenser. This way I didn't have to decide right then and there which side for the faucet (right side probably).

Well judging by the temps this week and going on what the weatherman is saying,it may seem and sound like it's here but I know that it's NOT!!!! Our daytime temps this week range anywhere from 60-68F with night temps of 49-56F. It wont last though. We run the risk of having freezing temps until about April 15th. After that we're pretty much good to go. Some one once told me that when the grape vines begin to sprout,winter is over and that's usually how I determine if we're out of the woods yet or not!!! I have a huge muscadine (bronze & black grapes) in the left side of my front yard and usually about this time of year I start keeping a close eye on it for signs of new growth. A lot of our spring flowering bulbs such as daffodils and hyacinths are blooming now and I have even noticed some of the spring flowering shrubs showing some color so maybe it won't be too much longer. I recently saw some honey bees out collecting pollen also so spring is definitely in the air!!! dmichael

riverrat1 - this is one of the few places where people could understand someone having a jam collection! That is one delicious sounding package. I'm pretty sure no one else here would appreciate the tangerine marmalade as much as I would. Or the blackberry jam. So if you would be so kind, just put them back in the box, stuff a little newspaper in there (you know, to keep them from breaking - wouldn't want them bouncing around like bb's in a boxcar, now would we?) and ship them on over here. Oh, and I tasted pickled watermelon rind for the first time this past June asn LOVED it. You can put that one in there too, just to balance out the box. Thanks.

I added some pictures to the link above. Tomme, I hear ya! I'm so glad we finally got some sunshine today. I hope it holds for a while! Wooderlander, WHOA! How terrifying (and infuriating in the case of the driver of your car, LOL). I'm so glad you escaped unscathed - every week we read about someone in the area who ended up in an irrigation canal or something and died. I have even gotten a little paranoid about it and have been trying to figure out how I would get the kids out of my van if we ever ended up in water. I really don't know and it is such a horrid thought. And wow, that tree!! It's a miracle no one was hurt and no houses or cars were crushed. pauline, thanks for the well wishes! bunglogirl, I *hate* power outages. How did you get through 3 days of it? Thankfully, we never lost power. I can understand how your dh feels - I get annoyed with anything that disrupts my routine, but then you get some perspective when you think about hurricane victims or the miners' families. pecanpie, what a sweet thing to say! It really cheered me up to read how you found this area beautiful. You can come visit whenever you want :) Bill, thanks for the prayers. We get this kind of thing periodically and hey, it's California. If you don't have a flood year there are plenty of other disastrous possibilities :) I do hope the prediction is wrong, but from what I've read of the scientific experts' comments, I'm afraid Sylvia Brown is probably right. proudmama, thank you for your thoughts! We're all just fine and quite lucky to actually be able to enjoy the spectacle in comfort. jerzeegirl, those waves are amazing, and even more amazing is that the surfers have been flocking to them. That's nuts!!! Well, it is to me, anyway. I appreciate everyone's comments very much and hope you are all safe and dry. I feel overly dramatic posting pictures of our little flood when so many others have experienced events of a magnitude I can't even imagine.

Thanks everyone! I have three daughters who all appreciate quilts so it will be in good hands. Teresa, I'm in Kansas so I won't be able to get to NC for an appraiser. Gorgeous stone! Love it both ways, but the oiling definitely brings out that gorgeous veining. Can't wait for the final reveal.

Thanks so much everyone...it has been agony here at work...waiting and wanting to go home. But I was there for the install at least.

The stone is Santa Rita Venata...from M. Tex in Hackensack. It just has such a relaxing beachy calming feeling...that's the only way I can describe it.

We did like it both ways but it's such a shame to hide the veining with it unoiled. I read somewhere that someone oils in the winter to keep it dark, and in the summer time lets them go au'natural for a lighter feel. I did like it natural, but with the unfinished backsplash, pencil marks on the walls, oulet guts hanging out, etc...it looked, well, unfinished. We'll see once I pick a backsplash how we like it unoiled.

That looks perfect with your wood. I'm sure you'll enjoy seeing it change from day to day. We've been letting ours fade out a little before reapplying the oil. It's beautiful stone.

Thanks everyone...yes, I'm in love...love all the colors and watching it change as the oil evaporates.

Polly (LOL): Can't wait for you to come over and see...if you drive by and see cars, come on in! Remember the doorbell still isn't hooked up so knock on the door!

Swimmer: The faucet is the Delta Leland...it's prettier in person, and also comes in 2-piece (where the lever is a separate part). I ordered online, but can't remember which site.

It's funny, before I found gardenweb I didn't like soapstone one bit. Now, I adore it!

I especially love the carmel veining in yours, it is just beautiful!

fivefootzero, CONGRATS!!! Your soapstone oooozes cool! I love the veining! I also like the contrast of the hard, formidable stone against the soothing curves of your sink and faucet - just awesomeness! Can't wait to see it all come together! Enjoy!!!
