Since you posted about this, I thought I'd ck it out. Now that's a LOT of spam. Will GW see it and delete it?

I'm growing Red sheild for the 1st time this year.Its about 10 ft tall right now.I was told by my trader it would bloom about Nov for me& the picture she included shows pink flowers red centers.I also grow a roselle.same leaves,but are held different and it is setting buds now& will bloom in october.I useually top it at 2 ft and keep topped till july so it grows more like a round shrub.I didn't this year and have plans with bread ties on my belt loop to secure to fence.its starting to grow "wavey".when topping it it does seem to have alot more branches and a fuller plant. I grow castor beans.My reds i traded for didn't sprout,but was told they are the only short ones.I grew my greens this year,but have some pink veined& some carmine that have purpleish leaves and the stalk is deep purple.I'm in zone 8b TX and mine actually return& so do the seeds that fall off that I miss.I had a 21 ft plant last yr. grew in old compost pile that I moved and the bed was actually raised.The trunk was 9 in diameter& when I chopped it down.....it grew back to about 4 ft before frost got it.I couldn't even reach the seeds,but the seed was big like a red runner bean.

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Clematis by Mary Toomey and Everett Leeds (published in association with the British Clematis Society) is my primary source as it is relatively up-to-date and detailed. It indicates that this variety has "single, rather small, deep reddish purple flowers...tepals, each with a central white stripe. Mature flowers fade to purplish red, and the white stripe takes on a pronounced red veining." Hope this helps. The name BTW, translates to 'Miniskirt'.

Thank you everyone for responding. I probably owe an apology to IVillage..it must not have been them putting up the ad. Probably a fluke. It's just that the ad fit the page so well. Very odd. In any event, my computer is clean..so I guess it's just another 'blip' that goes unexplained.

I love how they make biochar, it's an open-pit, burn stuff in there, then STOP the burning process by throwing dirt & water on top. Half-burnt stuff is less alkaline that ashes, which is extremely caustic to plants with pH over 12. I got some ashes from a fireplace, and had to wash my hands immediately, it's caustic to my skin. eHow described it as: " Use a shovel to cover the burning plant material with about 1 inch of soil when you see the smoke is grayish-blue. This layer slows the burning material to smoldering by reducing the oxygen and creates the charcoal. Douse the smoldering fire with water when you see the plant material has turned into charcoal chunks. Completely douse and put out the fire at this point. Allowing the plant material to continue burning will turn it into ash, defeating the purpose of introducing biochar into your soil. Amend your garden soil using the biochar and compost. The combination of biochar and compost will give your plants the most benefit of the compost nutrients quicker. Read more : http://www.ehow.com/how_10061232_make-garden-biochar.html

The Topiary forum gets spammed all the time too and by the same person(s) it seems.

I think I've checked out about every forum of GW at time or another, so many interesting conversations and discussions.

Wow! That took some time for that jerk to do, even with cut/paste. I would imagine GW can pretty easily & quickly delete it.

Holy moly--ten pages of it! How does someone get away with selling illegal drugs so openly? (I live a sheltered life down on the farm......)

If people report it to the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page, eventually the powers that be will delete the spam and ban the spammer.
(You need to pull down the subject menu in your message and choose "abuse of forums" or they won't follow up.)

Thanks for your responses. I sent a message to Contact Us ("abuse of forums") yesterday, but the Spam is still there this morning. If this person has spammed other sites in a similar way, I wonder why they don't ban him/her? In other forums inappropriate responses seem to be yanked immediately. . .

Correction: I meant to say by "a" same person not "the" same person spamming the Topiary forum in the past. Sorry.

Same thing happened on the Home Entertainment forum. For some reason, the mods only maintain a couple forums (Cooking, Kitchens, Appliances, Buying/Selling Homes, KT). I'm guessing they're the forums with the most traffic.
