If you are signed up for the JoAnn mailer, or get the coupons via e-mail, you can buy a multi-yard piece, Using the coupon will save you 40% or 50% off. If several of you plan to do this and co-ordinate you plan, you should be able to get some fabrics at a better price.

Right now there is a 50% off coupon on line. Various people would be willing to send it to you if you let it be known that you do not have access to these.

Thanks for the offer, but I do receive the coupons. The problem with JoAnne's is that even with the coupons, the fabric is still expensive. If it is $10. per yard with 40% off coupon that is still $6.00 per yard. Also, some of the patriotic fabric is $12.99 per yard.

Hobby Lobby has a little for $4.00 since they are always 30% off. I have already purchased what I could.

I don't understand why the patriotic fabric is so much more than the regular fabric. I have already spent $50. and my budget will not stand for much more.

Monica, Our Walmart still has fabric and there's quite a bit I would consider better than some that Joann's offer. They always have patriotic fabric.

Plain old white bleached muslin makes wonderful backings and is very cheap. It's wider than regular fabric so you get more for your money. Joanns with a coupon makes it a real deal. My Joanns has nothing for $10 let alone patriotic for $12. I don't know why yours is different.

The price of quilt fabric at my Joann's ranges from $2.49 to $6.99. With the coupons, it's a bargain. Even the patriotic prints are $6.99 and that's what they are listed for on their website too. Use one or two of those, along with the $2.49 in other red and blue prints and it's a pretty affordable quilt.

I agree that muslin makes a good backing. If you want a print though, use the coupon for a large cut of one of the prints you like so you have enough for the backing plus some for the piecework.

If you aren't happy with Joann's though, check any of the on-line quilt shops and search the sale items. Last spring I found a beautiful beige fabric with small deep red and blue stars for just $3/yd. I bought enough to use as backing on a couple QOV lap quilts.

I would use plain muslin on the back and save the special fabric for the front. I've been doing this more and more because I just can't see paying a lot for backing fabric. Put your money where it shows.

I was in one of our Joann's earlier this week, and many of these fabrics were in the $8.00 - $11.00 range. Even with the coupon, it was too much money for the quality. I am always surprised at how much the "nicer - more desirable" fabrics cost at Joann's - the batiks , holiday, patriotic, any recognizable name or licensed team or sport fabric. The store is in a very upscale neighborhood with no competition, but I will not pay the high prices there. I admit, I go there for the bargains to use the coupons.
There is always an issue shopping at Joann's ~ so I have to be in the right frame of mind before I enter (at my own risk).

I know they have a small selection of "quality quilt fabrics" comparable in quality to quilt store brands at similar prices, but I'm surprised you are finding the novelty prints in those prices. I'm lucky to have the Joann's I have, I guess! Next time you're in Orlando, check out their store at Waterford Lakes. Bring a big empty suitcase because I think you'll need it!
