JD Robb fans, I just went a little nuts.

I've been a fan of the JD Robb "In Death" series for some time, but mostly in audio form. Recently I discovered three books from the series in my overflowing "to be read" stack, and after a somewhat slow start I really got into them--especially the last one, Strangers in Death.

I decided to check out the chronological list of these books, and discovered Robb has written eight more since Strangers. The woman is a machine! She writes two a year, and they're not short books. They don't even seem as though they'd be all that easy to write (unlike some authors' books I can think of); the crime-solving can be intricate and technical. Granted, she does write a lot of dialogue (and I love writing dialogue, which goes quickly for me), but still.....I don't know how she maintains that level of productivity. She's probably also churning out Nora Roberts books at the same time.

Anyway, I went looking for one or two of the post-Strangers books on Amazon........and ended up ordering seven of them! They were good deals. I prefer hardcovers, and each of the ones I chose were fulfilled by Amazon for $4.00 or less (including shipping). Seven books.......you'd think I had nothing else to read.

How are the other JD Robb fans at the KT doing?

used to read them as fast as they appeared in paperback,but havn't read for ages...i still try and buy them as they come out...

actually thoght for a while nora did so well on the death series, her other novels were hurting...

i've always thought they'd make a great tv series...and don't say that lightly, as i've seen other books to series fail...

People must hang onto them, as I almost never see them at used book sales. Otherwise I would have held out for that, as I love the hunt.

I made a mistake.....the one I particularly liked was Creation in Death, not Strangers. I haven't read Strangers yet.

No troll here. After four days of rain the sun and wind came out Saturday and made quick work of drying most of the yard so I got to get out and cut. The 20hp Kohler YS-4500 with 42" deck worked very well. I'm glad I decided against the three blade 54" deck as the 42" fits between the trees, swingset, benches and all the bumps in the yard. I found that if I just clear the obstacle with the left front wheel the deck just misses it. Still figuring out how to aim the discharged clippings as I go so I'm not continually mow over them. The grass was a lot higher than I thought so maybe this won't be an issue during subsequent cuts. Sunday the rest of the leaves and grass were dry in the shaded part of the yard so I put the mulching plug in place but left the "high lift" blades on. Did a good job on them too but I'll put the mulching blades on before trying it again, just for comparison. The LT is sold with the "high lift" blades for discharge and bagging but the instructions with the mulching kit state that the mulching blades are fine for bagging also. Go figure. So, with only one cut under it's belt and one round of bolt tightening and locktiting behind us, so far it's fine. Btw, I did check the oil, filters, nuts & bolts, air pressure, deck angle adjustment and greased all the zerks and the guide wheels before using. Even put the steering wheel on straight. ;^) I've read here about Kohler head gasket problems so I'll check torque on the head bolts now that I have a few hours and thermal cycles on it. HydroGoat

Well the weather report we just watched said that we have a chance of frost in Grove. Intellicast.com is showing 36 as the low for tonight. I have covered what I can cover and I may have a few things lost if we get a frost, but there isn't much else I can do. I pulled the cages off some container tomatoes and covered them with two layers of insect barrier row cover, I covered the beans the best way I could but since most are already climbing, they are hard to cover. I put flat sheets of cardboard on each side of the trellis and pulled the tops together and clipped them together with clothes pins. Some bean plants I couldn't cover. I had put in 4 eggplants this week that are about 6-8 inches tall, but I put them in the holes where broccoli plants had been eaten by something (before it was covered) so they are under an Agribon low tunnel. I have good sized squash which is also under a low tunnel and I just threw a sheet over some of the bed since the temp is already down to 42. They are saying 'frost' not 'freeze' so maybe I will be OK with most things. Most of the tomato plants have a flower pot turned down over them, but they are getting wide enough to touch the edges. The ones that got the row cover over them were too tall for a flower pot to cover. Most of the tomato plants are looking really good so it would be terrible to have to start over at this point. I only have two plants that aren't looking good. One is a Tess's Landrace that has a million little holes in the leaves and the other is a Green Zebra that just doesn't seem to be thriving. I have a replacement for both, but hate to take them out if I don't need to. It looks like we will be in the 40-60 range every night after this one, through the end of the month. Surely we can relax when May arrives. It may take me an hour to uncover everything in the morning, but if it is still green then it will all be worth it.

You don't "need" a wet tile cutter but it certainly makes the process go much faster. With those mitered cuts, where they'll be butting up to each other, and out in the field of the tile, wet saw will be the ONLY way to cut that tile. Otherwise you WILL end up with rough cuts. As for whether you're crazy for trying this or not, think about this-- there's a younbg lady who alot of the "old timers" in here know as Pirula (Ivette). She and her husband put their own master bathroom together, including a Kerdi steam shower. it comes down to one of my favorite cliches-- "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right." It's mainly a matter of confidence. I can help you through it, and so can the other pros over at John's forum. It's up to you. From what I've seen so far, it looks like you've got a pretty good jump on it, though!

The growth in Texas was quite staggering. Places that were just dirt...a year or two later you had stores, malls and so much in such a short time. D.C and Houston was always confusing to me...geographically, i mean. Until i finally learned it's a circular or wagon-wheel design then it was much better. I used to get lost all the time. A lot of stopping and looking at my maps, lol. No GPS then! I still go back to visit when i can..i'm addicted to the MEGA HEB in Austin. I wish we had some over here.

I buy everything she writes the minute it's published. Some of her books are better than others, but I always enjoy them, even the not-so-good ones. I'm slowly replacing my hard copies with e-books. What's really fun is if you read a bunch of her books, including the Nora Roberts ones, all at once, you can see where she re-uses the same bits and pieces of characters and re-mixes them to make new characters. She is amazingly prolific even considering the formulaic nature of her books. I give her kudos for continuing to write all her own material as compared to authors like James Patterson who have turned their name into a marketing ploy for their co-authors.

I think I've read all of the Death books, I borrow them in e-pub from the library, so they cost me nothing.

I think with all the futuristic stuff in them, they'd be hard to do in movies or a TV series. The cars can go vertical, how fun would that be to see?!

I recommend listening to at least one, the reader does wonderful character voices.

I love all her books. I actually have every single one of the books in print. I read them initially out of order as I hunted them down in a used bookstore near my house, but over the last few months I've been reading the entire collection in order and it's fun to watch the events unfold.

I just love her characters. I think she does such a good job of really fleshing them out with real human flaws, almost to the point where I'm sad that these people don't really exist.

Plus it's fun to see what she dreams up of the future!

I haven't read her JD Robb books but I love her Nora Roberts books. Just finished one of her newest - The Witness and am now reading the Next Always, Book One The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy.

I'm another Nora Roberts fan, but only recently read the first "In Death" book. I really liked it and have also purchased the next few to read. Wow, this is a long series.

Mboston, consider this a poke to try the JD Robb series. I you want to start at the beginning, the first one was Naked in Death.

Susan, I just found out that I haven't read the newest book, Celebrity in Death,so I just put it on hold at the library, yay. Also one of the books that has 3 of her novellas in it, so that's great. Thanks for the reminder/nudge!

They are the bomb and while I would love to see a screen version I'd rather she not sell out...i'm afraid to be disappointed with the visions in my head!!

the flying car thing was done quite well in bruce willis movie "the 5th element" including the traffic, they talk about, ect...(including the off world club)

Liz ga, I agree with you. I usually hate seeing my favorite book characters translated into television or movies. The only one I've ever really liked is Tom Selleck as Robert B. Parker's Jesse Stone...perfect casting and the teleplay scripts are very similar to the books' plots.

I recently read on a forum that Tom Cruise has signed on to play Lee Child's Jack Reacher and I was so disappointed. It may end up being a good movie, but it will never be true to the books for me because Jack Reacher's height is too much a part of the character's development and motivation.

Katlan, they're police procedural suspense novels featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her impossibly rich, impossibly handsome/charming/talented/helpful Irish husband, Roarke. The author writes her romances under another name (Nora Roberts), but the JD Robb books always contain two or three fine.....um......romantic scenes.

I know, Susanjf, but I can't imagine a Robb book having the same budget as a Willis movie.... maybe special effects aren't as expensive as I think, though..... So, OK, let's order up a few movies, they would be fun! :) The hologram room would be fun, too.

Cruise as Reacher is just stupid. And when asked, Cruise said he was a little sensitive about the criticism. Um. REACHER wouldn't be! So right there, it tells you it's poorly cast! Hopefully, "One Shot" bombs and they recast for a 2nd movie. I won't go see it, I don't want my mental image of Reacher tainted. Plus, I don't like Tom Cruise.
