You can fly right into Daytona, but I'm sure it's cheaper to fly into Orlando. Beach days coming up!

look at Sanford too, just northeast of orlando and much easier and nicer to travel to/from. only problem is that there are only a hand full of carriers that go thru.

as far as distances both sanford & OIA are right off tollroad 417 and you can FLY down that up to I-4 and over to I-95 in daytona in a short time.

enjoy central fl thou while you are here...btw when were you coming thru? ~ liz

I see DC is on the list, and so is Boston. Boston is a lot of fun...walk the freedom trail, see the Old North Church, Bunker Hill, USS Constitution, wander around Harvard and see the museums and the Coop. There's a science museum, and one of the most beautiful art museums...the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum. See Quincy market, go to the top of the John Hancock building to see the view...the arboretum, the museum of fine arts. If you time it right, you can go to a free summer concert at the hatch shell. That quiz is cool. But it says that I sound like North Central. Don't know about that! When dh lived in NC the people there thought he was from Virginia. Apparently our Cdn accent sounds like Virginians....

If you get up from the KT and walk over to the back door, then peek out in the back yard, you will see a lonely little rundown doghouse...that is where the LazyPup lives... Thats why I didn't make the list,,,cause nobody knows the street address for the KT

well.... flying to daytona was an extra $600 dollars at least.. I'm not made of money, so I'm flying to Orlando. too bad we didn't know earlier.. flights this close are expensive.

sorry, Liz.. didn't see your note until right now. But I bet that Sanford is probably really expensive too. I'll be there Monday afternoon and leave Saturday morning.

Kat--you shouldn't have a problem getting from Orlando International to Daytona. Take 528 (just outside the airport) east (turn right) and then stay on that to Exit 37 and take 407 to I-95, which will take you right to Daytona. It's probably an hour or so drive.

Because the airport is on that side of Orlando, you will miss all that downtown traffic and soon be in the "country".

Have a great trip and hope your team wins!!!

thank you Patti! I get nervous with big cities and lots
of freeways! I'm more nervous about getting back to
the airport to the rental lot. the airport looks HUGE! lol
I hope we win 3 games in a row... then we won't have to
play on Friday. Which means the team would be on
their way home and I would be stuck there buy myself
for Friday, but that's okay, as I want them to
win and not have to play a fourth game!
gee... i'll need to find a good spf and apply apply apply
do they sell umbrellas there? makes good shade for
us normal peeps that don't like hot sun! Hahahaha

Kat, you could enjoy the beach Friday morning and early afternoon. Then head to Titusville where you could meet with Sandy, Lisa and hopefully Renee. I don't know if Renee's sister, Lisa, could come but you could have a mini get together. I bet they would be thrilled to actually see what your face looks like. LOL

This wouldn't be out of your way. You could then travel to Orlando and stay at a hotel not far from the airport. Do you have a GPS? If so program it for the rental car company at the terminal.

Have a great time and I hope Ryan's team wins all their games.

Kat, they will give you a map when you get your rental car--if not ask for one and tell them where you want to go. Liz lives in Orlando so her route may be easier. Maybe she can give you exact details as to how to get to 417 and how to get over to I-95 from there. I got my directions from our map.

We've been to OIA several times to pick up family members and it's an easy airport to get around in. Everything is well-marked so I don't think you will have a problem but I know the feeling--I hate to be in a busy city and not know WTH I'm going.

Kat, I looked at the map again and Liz's way cuts a lot of time off. You still take 528 east (turn right) out of the airport, but take Exit 16 (417). Go north. That will take you straight to I-4 (around Exit 52). I-4 will take you in just south of Daytona. Daytona isn't a big city so you should be okay then.

Do you have your motel room yet? I suggest taking a good book or two and just relaxing by the pool or on the beach. You've been through a lot and probably could use a relaxing day or two. You can drive your car onto the beach at Daytona. It's very wide and the sand is packed down. But this time of year you can probably find a place to stay reasonably right on the beach.

OK, I'll shut up now ;-)

lol
I wanted to stay where the team is staying.
And I didn't hear until right now. They are splitting time
at Bahama house and Best Wester Aku Tiki.
I tried to get a room at the bahama and the website said
to call no room available. So I reserved at the BW Aku Tiki. it was a website special.. wonder if I had called and
said I was going to Emry~riddle if the price would be
better (Embry website said they had deals with some of
the hotels) Oh, well, I just reserved through
thursday night as this 97 dollar rate is non refundable.
I will figure out what to do for Friday night
I see tha the Marriot has a hotel right in the airport!
how cool is THAT? lol

thanks for all your help!
now that I can leave the house, I need to go buy a pair
of short pants! LOL

It's me again :0 Those directions should read to take 417 all the way to I-4. One map shows it just it one exit and the inset shows another one. But 417 will get you to I-.

as your luck would have it i manage a semi & truck fleet for a huge landscape plant grower that ships from VA to TX and it's my job to know most major streets in every medium & large city from south VA to the MS/TX border LOL. i live in seminole co, near winter springs by the 417 :-) so i know almost all the streets here. i know your route sooo well i can even tell you what lane you need to be in, in and around the airport lol. love to get to meet you but i am still in the thick of our busy spring and am gone 17hrs a day :-( everybody always comes thru orlando during the only time of the yr i can't meet up LOL!

your quickest route will be 528 East (get in the very far Right lane at the exit of OIA) to 417 North (these are toll roads you will need several $$ ea way) follow that all the way to the end which dumps you on I-4 East (really northbound) towards Daytona. follow that till it ends at I-95 and stay to the Left. if you want to email (ehld@cfl.rr.com) where you are staying i can tell you directions around daytona if you need them or send you my cell# in case you get lost. the days and times you are coming in will not have much rush traffic and honestly i LOVE 417/528 because there are not alot of people willing to pay (some tolls $1.75) for them so there is far less traffic than you would expect, except between 4-6pm mon-fri but it never sits like it does on I-4 around orlando (not where you are going to be on I-4 thou).

it's been kinda warm, low 90's our summer is here so dress to be cool. spend the day at the pool or beach it's great beach weather right now! enjoy! ~ liz

thank you so much! I will print these off!
I don't have a problem sitting in traffic. You should
see the traffic in Seattle. it's just all the freeways!
In Seattle you have ONE freeway and 2 choices, northbound
or southbound! LOL It is a little nerve racking
when you are some place new and you don't know which
lane to be in! lol I missed a LEFT exit when I was
going back to the Columbus Ohio airport at night,
and I loved
hearing, "Re routing..." or what ever from the
gps. LOL

I appreciate it, Liz! I really do, but
I certainly don't want to bother you! lol
I read one of your posts when you were talking about
all the different phones you had. One for the truck
drivers, one for the clients, one for the office
people! etc! lol

Last time I was in Florida, was when DS was in the
8th grade. My Dad took the whole family to
Disney World. Needless to say, I don't remember anything
about the drive, except the toll roads. That was
surprising! AND we actually found our way to the
condos with out GPS or mapquest! How about that? LOL
It's easier when you have a navigator!

thank you all so much!
Kat, who is bringing a little umbrella for shade! LOL

LOL Kat you have quite a memory! yes i do have several phones esp at this time of yr but i would gladly drop all of them for a call from an unknown area code LOL while you are in town ;-)) offer still stands in case you need it. BTW make sure to pick up bottled water once you are in daytona, our local grocery stores are Publix, albertsons and winn dixie, you will definitely need some. ~ liz
