ductwork for range hood

I have a Zephyr Typhoon range hood that requires a 7" round duct. I've read here that one should use rigid ductwork, and I see that I can easily buy rigid 7" round steel ducts at any big box store.

Everyone who's working on my kitchen, though, seems to see no reason why we can't start with the 7" round and then connect to flexible ducting to make the run to the outside. "That's what everyone does," is what I keep hearing. All I can reply is that "I've read" that flexible ducting doesn't allow maximum air flow. "Oh, you'll have plenty of airflow - this hood is way too big, anyway."

Can anyone point me to a reputable site that talks about why rigid ductwork is best? I did a search, but didn't find what I was looking for. I know we don't have to justify ourselves, and in the end, we'll insist on the rigid ductwork, but I'd like to be able to explain why we want that, that we're not just being obstinate.
